Blessed are the Bizarre The various strains of death metal that emerged from the late ’90s onward to around the mid 2010’s can primarily be understood as a series of responses and course-corrections, often situated against one another. The adversarial nature of these movements resulted in various facets of death metal being pushed to their limits before falling into narrow, inward-gazing aesthetics.
