It’s list season, a time for retrospectives on our favorite albums of 2020, and yet here you greedy fuckers are reading about brand new music. For that I thank you, because you’re giving me job security and letting me rake in those sweet, sweet Toilet Bux™. This week’s list is pretty big and pretty diverse; Karhu and Hans are your guides through it this week, but don’t be shy about wandering off into the unknown to listen to something you might not have heard of.

JARS – ДЖРС III (P.O.G.O. Records) [Noise Rock/Punk] Weird Russian noise rock anyone? No? Well, I’m not yet entirely convinced myself, but their last EP (featured here on the Free Flush) was so god damn fire that I remain optimistic. The promo text promises an equally diverse and equally noisy ride through a variety of genres. Plus the opener on the EP wasn’t exactly indicative of the rest either. 12/11/20 (Hans)

Heretical Sect – Rapturous Flesh Consumed (Vendetta/Gilead) [Black Metal] A similar historic perspective as that of Wayfarer found expression on the debut EP by mixing black metal with elements of sludge. The sound has since matured into somewhat cavernous blackened death with a hefty portion of doom, often dominated by slightly melodic lead guitar and sometimes dipping into eerie atmosphere. It feels less unique than the first offering, but apart from that, I can find little fault in what’s available so far. 12/11/20 (Hans)

Chalice – Trembling Crown (High Roller Records) [Heavy Metal] Though heavy metal, and it’s ‘epic’ varieties are on the rise now, Finland’s Chalice are no tailgaters. They weave into their songs grandiose and dirge-like melodies and elements from doom downcast doom, without ever giving up to the gloom. Their songwriting recalls the days of progressive rock, there’s nimble acoustic guitar solos and the production gives Trembling Crown a pleasingly mystic air, instead of highlighting it’s most metal qualities. 12/11/20 (Karhu)

Æsthetica – Sonorous Æon (Snake Oil Distribution) [Doom]

Airborn – Lizard Secrets – Part Two – Age of Wonder (Fighter Records) [Heavy/Power Metal] Amon Sethis – Part 0 – Nitocris, the Queen with Golden Hair (Independent) [Power Prog]

Apocryphetic – Heir to the Cosmos (Sunshine Ward Recordings) [Black Metal] AxBites – Now Is the Time (Independent) [Thrash] Bark – Written in Stone (Independent) [Death’n’Roll] Batu – Vol. 3: Corruptopía (Independent) [lolbuttz] Baxaxaxa – Devoted to HIM (Independent) [Black Metal] Boris/Merzbow – 2R0I2P0 (collab- Relapse Records) [Boris stuff, but with more static] Bròn – Pred dverima noći (Nordvis) [Black Metal/Ambient] Brüja – Mundo Triste (Transylvanian Tapes) [Crust/Black Metal] Cardinal Wyrm – Devotionals (Independent) [Doom] Carnal Disfigurement – An Intense Hatred for Humanity (Amputated Vein Records) [Brutal Death Metal] Concerto Moon – Rain Fire (Walkure Records) [Power Metal]

Cro-Mags – 2020 (Arising Empire) [Hardcore/Thrash] Deeds of Flesh – Nucleus (Unique Leader) [Tech Death] Demonstealer – And This Too Shall Pass (Independent) [Death Metal] Dispyt – Under tiden jag sålde min själ till Satan (Independnet) [Crusty Death Metal]

Engulfed – Vengeance of the Fallen (Dark Descent) [Death Metal] The Fallen Prophets – No End in Sight (Independent) [Deathcore]

The Father of Serpents – Years Lost in Darkness (Independent) [Prog/Doom] Focal Dystonia – Descending (In)Human Flesh (Comatose Music) [Brutal Death Metal] Fortíð – World Serpent (Prophecy Productions) [Meloblack/death] Fullminator – Omniplasm (Independent) [Punk/Thrash] Funeral Winds – Essence (Independent) [Black Metal] 五人一首 – 死人賛歌 (Bang the Head Records) [Weird Shit]

Greenmachine – Greenmachine (Independent) [Sludge/Doom] Grimgotts – Legends (Independent) [Pirate Metal, Probably]

Hand of Kalliach – Shade Beyond (Independent) [Folky Death Metal] Heads for the Dead – Into the Red (Transcending Obscurity) [Death Metal] Intrinsic Maleficence – Relapse (Transylvanian Tapes) [Death Metal] Kranium – Uma Tullu (Gestores) [Folk/Doom/Death] The Magik Way – Il Rinato (My Kingdom Music) [uh] Mörkö – Kohti langenneen nousua (Independent) [Black Doom] Mortiferum/Hyperdontia – split (Me Saco Un Ojo/Carbonized) [Death Metal] Mud Factory – The Sins of Our Fathers (Wormholedeath) [Groove/Death Metal] Naughtskeid – Ultimate Infernal Nightscape (Transylvanian Tapes) [Deathened Black Metal] Satan’s Fall – Final Day (Independent) [Speed Metal] Sebastien – Integrity (Smile Music) [Power Metal] Six Foot Six – End of All (Scarlet Records) [Heavy Metal] Smerdead – Во тьме лесов (Soundage Productions) [Melodeath] Snowblind – The Holy Metal Spirit (Sleaszy Rider Records) [Heavy Metal] Spectral Dance – Like an Avenging Spectre (Snow Wolf Records) [Black Metal] Steingrab – Malum Genesis (Independent) [Black Metal] Suffering Sights – Existential Realism (Burning Coffin Records) [Death Metal] Suntorn – The First Covenant (Amputated Vein Records) [Brutal Death Metal] …Under a Full Moon – Destruction of Humanity (Independent) [Black Metal]
