Distant Dominion – Ripping Through Time<\/a> (Fetzner Death Records) [Blackthrash \/ Death \/ Heavy Metal]<\/b><\/p>\n

Ripping Through<\/em> Time <\/em>delivers on the promise of its name, tracing the evolution of metal from blues rock through today’s mutated mass of subgenres. From the title track’s Death<\/strong> worship and manic, mid-range growls (reminiscent of Jeff Walker) to the NWoBHM swagger at the heart of “We’ve Come For Your Souls,” no style is safe from assimilation. The overall impression is of a rickety wooden rollercoaster, throwing bolts with every passing car, harvesting joy and adrenaline from its passengers. Sure, if you pay close attention, the pieces could be soldered with more finesse, but the feeling that everything could collapse in a heartbeat is half the fun. Distant Dominion isn’t here to reinvent the speed metal wheel\u2014they’re far too busy rending the fabric of space-time for our benefit. -Roldy<\/strong><\/p>\n
