You\u2019re welcome.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"shrinkToFit alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/f4.bcbits.com\/img\/a3338930109_10.jpg?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"https:\/\/f4.bcbits.com\/img\/a3338930109_10.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>Artist: <strong>Sign of the Jackyl<\/strong><br \/>\nAlbum: <i>Heavy Metal Survivors<br \/>\n<\/i>Song: &#8220;Breaking the Spell&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBreaking the Spell\u201d opens sounding like <em>Too Fast For Love<\/em>-era <strong>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce<\/strong>, but instead of having to endure Vince Neil\u2019s nasal drone, we get Laura &#8220;Demons Queen&#8221; Coller, who is a better singer (although, who <i>isn\u2019t<\/i> a better singer than Neil?). Italy\u2019s Sign of the Jackyl make snarling Sunset Strip-style metal perfect for fans of Cr\u00fce, <strong>Poison<\/strong>, and <strong>Dokken<\/strong>. \u201cBreaking the Spell\u201d isn\u2019t the only song on their latest album, <i>Heavy Metal Survivors<\/i>, that borrows from Cr\u00fce. I suspect that when they wrote the song \u201cBuio Omega\u201d they\u2019d been listening to \u201cKickstart My Heart\u201d on repeat. But who cares? Cr\u00fce haven\u2019t made music worth listening to in decades. \u201cBreaking the Spell,\u201d with its devil-nightmares, screaming, and blood drinking is nothing but a good time.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 42px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=4230686245\/size=small\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/track=2255948477\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dyingvictimsproductions.bandcamp.com\/album\/heavy-metal-survivors\">Heavy Metal Survivors by Sign of the Jackal<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"shrinkToFit alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/f4.bcbits.com\/img\/a2512301976_10.jpg?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"https:\/\/f4.bcbits.com\/img\/a2512301976_10.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>Artist: <strong>Mahnwache<br \/>\n<\/strong>Album: <i>Der Weg zum Frieden<br \/>\n<\/i>Song: \u201cMahnwache\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the first single by Mahnwache, an atmospheric Black Metal band from the Netherlands. Mahnwache is Maria the Sinner on vocals and Jurran van den Brink on guitar. According to Bandcamp, \u201cThe melodic intro with guitars and synths takes you away in a dream that later on will be filled with brutal screams and siren vocals\u201d resulting in \u201ca feeling of inner peace and loss.\u201d I mean, sure? Why not? There is a dreamy quality to the song and Maria the Sinner\u2019s vocals cut through it like shards of broken glass. I can\u2019t find much information about the band as they formed in 2024 and have only released one song. But it\u2019s a very compelling song that makes me want to hear more from them.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 42px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/track=473597304\/size=small\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mahnwache.bandcamp.com\/track\/mahnwache\">Mahnwache by Mahnwache<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"detail__media__img-highres js-detail-img js-detail-img-high alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/external-content.duckduckgo.com\/iu\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metal-archives.com%2Fimages%2F1%2F2%2F4%2F0%2F1240420.jpg%3F0707&amp;f=1&amp;nofb=1&amp;ipt=266aa98ba760b68ee3415944de3ccd8aca7edfed2dea6a72731c028412ac1261&amp;ipo=images\" alt=\"Hatefulmurder - I Am That Power - Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal ...\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>Artist: <strong>Hatefulmurder<\/strong><br \/>\nAlbum:<i> I Am That Power<\/i><br \/>\nSong: \u201cCall Out Your Soul\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BuLHyZYU0qs?feature=shared\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/BuLHyZYU0qs?feature=shared<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brazil\u2019s Hatefulmurder have been around since 2008, but \u201cCall Out Your Soul\u201d from their latest album is the first song I\u2019ve ever heard from them. Hatefulmurder\u2014named to differentiate itself from, like, nice murder\u2014is fronted by Ang\u00e9lica Burns. I\u2019m not sure what genre this is, but I feel confident saying it\u2019s a mix of death, thrash, and redheaded growling (Burns growls and has red hair, so). I don\u2019t mind growling, though I do like some clean vocals for balance, but I didn\u2019t hear any in the few songs I listened to. Still, I can get behind lyrics like, \u201cThere\u2019s always someone to throw the first stone. The preacher is also guilty.\u201d There are a lot of people doing very shitty things out there, like demonizing trans kids and banning abortion, claiming they were called by the lord to do so. Sungoose is a prog metal band from Norway who have thus far released one song, \u201cStone Cold Walls,\u201d and it is drenched in saxophone, played by Jenni \u00d8iom Askvig. Lead vocals and bass are handled by Nathaniel Loke Bendixen. The sax and Bendixen\u2019s voice mesh perfectly and there\u2019s a kind of interplay going on as if there are two lead vocals. Bendixen\u2019s voice is smooth and plaintive and has sort of a crooner quality, \u00e0 la Dean Martin or k.d. Lang. According to their Instagram, more music is on the way, possibly a debut EP? Answer: Zero. But the Metal Goddess can do whatever she wants (as can Metal God Rob Halford who has put out two Christmas albums. Also Doro and Halford\u2019s \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart\u201d duet on Doro\u2019s last album is one of the most magical things to ever happen). What to make of \u201cRock \u2018N\u2019 Roll Christmas Party?\u201d I believe the lyrics to this song are, \u201cRock \u2018n\u2019 roll Christmas party, with metal and wine. Rock \u2018n\u2019 roll Christmas party, such a good time.\u201d What did you expect, Shakespeare? It is, like all Doro songs, earnest and straightforward. She definitely has a formula. If you like one Doro album, you\u2019ll like them all. You don\u2019t ever have to worry that she\u2019s going to suddenly put out, like, a goregrind or post-metal song. I\u2019m not saying that all of her songs sound the same, I\u2019m just saying that they all sound like Doro. According to their bio on StickMan Records they merge \u201cthe pop sides of modern rock with heavy desert rock.\u201d Bassist and backing vocalist Marie Moe has called the band\u2019s music \u201cstonerpop,\u201d which fits, and there\u2019s some grunge and post-punk in there, too. Vocalist\/guitarist Ben Berdous describes \u201cBattling Guns\u201d as \u201can anti-war, anti-fascist track,\u201d which I certainly appreciate. \u201cShape our hands as our whole world burns,\u201d Berdous sings, \u201cLike animals, we dig the earth.\u201d Albums like <i>Tundra Rock<\/i> are why I don\u2019t even try to get my Best of 2024 list done before the end of the year. It\u2019s really fucking good. Looking Slomosa up online, I see that they\u2019re doing a U.S. tour with War On Women and Helmet in February. I went to France once. My favorite part was going underground into the catacombs, walking through damp tunnels with low ceilings, walls lined with neatly stacked bones from approximately 6 million people. I thought it would be scary, but it was more awe-inspiring. With their self-titled debut, it\u2019s as if\u00a0 Witchorious aimed to create the perfect soundtrack to skulking underneath the Paris streets surrounded by death. Take the opening of \u201cEternal Night,\u201d for example: \u201cSurrounded by these empty souls,\u201d sings bassist and vocalist Lucie Gaget, \u201cspouting their meaningless words, hollowed bodies playing their roles.\u201d Gaget\u2019s voice reminds me a little of <strong>Messa<\/strong>\u2019s Sara Bianchin, though while Bianchin handles lead vocals for Messa, most of the lead vocals on <i>Witchorious<\/i> are by guitarist Antoine Auclair. The band also includes Paul Gaget, Lucie\u2019s brother, on drums. Happy and willing to let this band take my soul.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 42px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1604996944\/size=small\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/track=794772614\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/witchorious.bandcamp.com\/album\/witchorious-2\">Witchorious by Witchorious<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Band: <strong>Shards of Narsil<br \/>\n<\/strong>Song: \u201cDust to Dust\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t know that Shards of Narsil had to do with The Lord of the Rings until I started poking around online for info on the band. One website called the band \u201cTolkien-themed metal warriors\u201d and they refer to themselves as \u201cyour metal nerd friends\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YbZsEquJ6Pw?feature=shared\">YouTube<\/a>, so it all checks out. Shards of Narsil apparently began a couple of years ago as a \u201chusband-and-wife metalcore duo,\u201d per Bandcamp, with Andrew Koch (guitars and harsh vocals) and Navya Prakash (clean vocals and keyboards). They\u2019re now a \u201cpop-metal 5-piece\u201d and include Preeti Mohan (bass), Danny Tormoen (guitar), and Harrison Nealley (drums). Navya cites <strong>Spiritbox<\/strong>, <strong>Jinjer<\/strong>, and <strong>Paramore<\/strong> as her influences and other band members cite bands like <strong>Trivium<\/strong>, <strong>Symphony X<\/strong>, <strong>Seven Spires<\/strong>, and <strong>Swallow the Sun<\/strong>. They\u2019ve been putting out music since at least 2017. \u201cGoddamn, this shit is such a fuckin\u2019 bummer. I wanna bail but I don\u2019t have that kinda cash,\u201d roars Dale at the beginning of \u201cBummer Nation.\u201d That this song was released just three days after the reelection of Trump does not seem to be a coincidence. \u201cBummer Nation\u201d definitely has doom vibes, but its fury and Dale\u2019s delivery sound pretty fuckin\u2019 hardcore. S. R\u00f8ising (bass and vocals), Nikoline Spjelkavik (guitar and vocals), and Johanna Holt Kleive (drums and vocals) and \u201cFresh Blood, Fresh Pussy\u201d sounds like \u201chaunting Norwegian feminist black metal by resurrected witches.\u201d And it should, because it is. At least that\u2019s how Witch Club Satan describe themselves. The song could be about menstruation (the lyrics begin, \u201cMy face turns pale every fourth week. Scratch a hole in my stomach. Dress in my blood\u201d), but it\u2019s definitely about blood. Lots and lots of blood. The video for this song is very extra extremely bloody in case you don\u2019t believe me. But they don\u2019t care if you\u2019re offended. In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Sg2AnEy70Zg?si=6gaKjSog5Jim4YWp\">Cadaver TV<\/a>, R\u00f8ising said, \u201cI\u2019m not interested in provoking just to provoke, but if the provocation comes from a place that feels necessary and that is in line with my values, I think it is important to not fear the provocation.\u201d From what I\u2019ve seen and heard from WCS, they seem to fear very little.
