Its legend has survived on hushed whispers and arcane tomes. A leftover fragment of creation, it exists in a space between worlds upon the very corpse of God. Unfathomable horrors are said to guard the path to its resting place. Gazing into its pristine waters is said to reveal all that has ever been flushed and all that will ever be flushed: the golden Toilet of Revelation. Since learning of it, it has never strayed from your thoughts. It is the one thing left you desire, and you have braved that which no man should endure in order to find it.<\/p>\n

You emerge from the long-forgotten passage into an immense space no cavern could possibly hold. Across a vast plain, scarred by countless fulgurations and faintly illuminated by a black sun and the occasional flicker of an eldritch purple light in the swirling clouds above, you can see the faint glitter of gold. The path to the toilet is treacherous, but you’ve done your research; you know a safe path. Scrambling down the hill, you begin to feel the pressure of ancient divinity, as though something was watching you from all sides. You peer over your shoulder when you reach the bottom; the entrance at the top of the hill has vanished, the plain stretching out in all directions. There is no going back now.<\/p>\n

The sight of the golden toilet is more impressive than any book could describe. Twice your height, it sits atop a four-tiered dais, stone angels circling it on each tier with their arms outstretched in praise. It shines brilliantly despite the faint light. Your heart is pounding in your chest as you climb the platforms. This is what you’ve been searching for all these years. When you reach the top, a brilliant purple bolt strikes you from the clouds. The roar of thunder deafens you momentarily, but it’s over quickly. You feel power flowing through your veins; you have become He Who Flushes, the Omniscient, the new guardian of the All-Toilet. The circle of angels now lie prostrate before you, their new lord.<\/p>\n

Sons of the Crow<\/em> is a gut-busting EP with lots of tasty guitarmonies that recall epic viking stalwarts like Amon Amarth<\/strong> while maintaining a girthy, downtuned sound to make their big bad doom daddies proud. From the first few seconds of “Standing on Bedlam, Burning in Bliss,” I knew I was going to love Howls of Ebb<\/strong>. Nigh-impenetrable sound that will take me multiple listens to decipher? Check. Insane song structures belched from the blackest pits of Yuggoth? Check. Cryptic artwork and presentation? Check. Yep, this has me all twitterpated. Weird death forever. Nightslug – Loathe (Lost Pilgrim Records) [Sludge]<\/strong>

Great progress is being made for the advancement of slugs in music. Nightslug<\/strong> have joined the ranks of Slugdge<\/strong> and Guttural Slug<\/strong> to bring about the glorious, slimy will of Great Mollusca. Unlike the other two bands, though, Nightslug spread the mucus with a decidedly grimier, sludgier approach. If you love things that sound like they crawled out of the primordial ooze with the sole purpose of spreading dangerous ideals and\/or rocking, you’ll dig this. Carnalation – Ghosts (Inverse Records) [Deathgrind]<\/strong>
\nStream<\/a><\/p>\n

Carnalation<\/strong> was responsible for one of the better deathgrind albums of ’12. Three years has been a long time to wait for the follow-up and I did not know how to feel when they announced it would not be just straightforward beating but there’d be some odd hooks too. Especially since we’re talking about an EP, the perfect medium for short, sharp shock. Luckily my worries were in vain, there’s a lot less grind here but the death is strong and there are even some feels here. While the actual music doesn’t sound like Dead Congregation<\/strong> the songwriting – the dynamics woven by two guitars before transitioning from a moody section to blasting grind – reminds me of exactly them. I wrote about\u00a0Temple of Dagon<\/strong> way back on the very first This Toilet Tuesday<\/a>, and now, less than a year later, they’ve cranked out another EP. I’m pleased to report that they haven’t slowed down a bit. “Nexus of Reality” is a filthy beast that opens with a stomping mid tempo riff before giving way to an all-out mosher. Make sure you clear some space in your living room before hitting “play.” (Spear)<\/p>\n

Hadit – Introspective Contemplation of the Microcosmus (Caligari Records) [Blackened Death]<\/strong>
\nStream<\/a><\/p>\n

I like my thick, heavy beer the way I like my thick, heavy music: thick and heavy. The dense, churning sound of Hadit<\/strong> makes me want to grab a massive imperial stout and wade through a swamp. With feet firmly planted in both death and black metal, these brooding Italians stir up a dissonant miasma of heaviness on Introspective Contemplation of the Microcosmus.<\/em> While it doesn\u2019t writhe in the murk quite the same as \u00c6vangelist<\/strong>, fans of their recent release will dig Hadit. Sometimes they slog and drag their feet through the intestines of fallen posers, and other times they furiously rampage through leagues of filthy plebs. The point is, this album is swirling, heavy mass of dark fury, and you can bet I\u2019ll be lining up to get obliterated. (Stockhausen)<\/p>\n
