{"id":37631,"date":"2015-10-22T09:00:49","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T14:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/?p=37631"},"modified":"2015-10-22T08:22:27","modified_gmt":"2015-10-22T13:22:27","slug":"tech-death-thursday-demiurgon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toiletovhell.com\/tech-death-thursday-demiurgon\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech Death Thursday: Demiurgon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Clear some space and get ready to mosh; we&#8217;re going hard with\u00a0<strong>Demiurgon<\/strong> this Tech Death Thursday.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s catch up on the news:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decibel have premiered the <a href=\"http:\/\/decibelmagazine.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/20\/decibel-exclusive-cryptopsys-the-knife-the-head-and-what-remains-and-qa\" target=\"_blank\">second track<\/a> from\u00a0<strong>Cryptopsy&#8217;s<\/strong> upcoming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopsyofficial.bandcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Book of Suffering &#8211; Tome I<\/em><\/a>. If these two tracks (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/mini-reviews-from-around-the-toilet-bowl-10-14-15\/\" target=\"_blank\">MoshOff&#8217;s mini-review<\/a>) are any indication, this album will crush many a dick come October 30th.<\/li>\n<li>Indian progressive death outfit\u00a0<strong>Gaijin<\/strong> have a new baby album on the way and are streaming the first track <a href=\"https:\/\/transcendingobscurityindia.bandcamp.com\/album\/gaijin-technical-death-metal\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. It definitely has my attention, and the touch of producer Pierre R\u00e9millard is apparent. Look for it on November 7th.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re dying for new\u00a0<strong>Fallujah<\/strong> material, you might want to take a look at\u00a0<strong>Kardashev<\/strong>. Their new track, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JnD2BnJETJs&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\">Lux<\/a>,&#8221; is more than a little reminiscent of last year&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Flesh Prevails<\/em> in terms of overall tone, but they pull it off without completely aping the former.\u00a0<em>Peripety<\/em> drops on the 30th via Subliminal Groove.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a new\u00a0<strong>Abhorrent<\/strong> track. You already know how good it is. Check it out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jf-epxLrjrc&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>It feels like forever ago that\u00a0<strong>First Fragment<\/strong> announced they were working on new material, and now we&#8217;ve got our first fragment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=M7poaUW0AlY&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\">new album<\/a>\u00a0(HAHAHA SEE WHAT I DID THERE). These guys are fantastic musicians; I heartily recommend you go through Jack Bauer&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/tech-death-thursday-first-fragment\/\" target=\"_blank\">First Fragment primer<\/a> and give <a href=\"https:\/\/firstfragmentqc.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-afterthought-ecstasy\" target=\"_blank\">their EP<\/a> a go around.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Watchtower<\/strong> (whom I touched on briefly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/tech-un-death-thursday\/\" target=\"_blank\">last week<\/a>) just released three tracks out of fucking nowhere. Check out the teaser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AGGQmSMiMeE&amp;feature=share\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>; links to buy and listen are in the description.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe width=\"400\" height=\"100\" src=\"http:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/album=3231884025\/size=venti\/bgcol=FFFFFF\/linkcol=4285BB\/\" style=\"position:relative;display:block;width:400px;height:100px;\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been growing increasingly fond of tech death bands that don&#8217;t sound like tech death bands lately (see:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/tech-death-thursday-abhorrent-decimation\/\" target=\"_blank\">Abhorrent Decimation<\/a><\/strong>). I&#8217;m not entirely sure why, but I think that if you were to plot it all out, you&#8217;d see a positive correlation between it and my desire to punch people and a negative correlation with my desire to think. Thankfully,\u00a0<strong>Demiurgon<\/strong> have provided the perfect soundtrack to accompany my repressed rage.\u00a0<em>Above The Unworthy<\/em> is a powerhouse of an album, with highly technical playing encased\u00a0in an OSDM shell. The delivery is akin to the likes of\u00a0<strong>Suffocation<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Immolation<\/strong> (and tons of other\u00a0<strong>-ation<\/strong> bands, I&#8217;m sure), with tons of pinch harmonics, endless double bass and blastbeats, and sudden tempo and time changes. The guitarists fly across the fretboard effortlessly, but they&#8217;re not afraid to rein it in occasionally for pure headbanging goodness. &#8220;Pillars of an Inverted Creation&#8221; and &#8220;Apogee of a Collapsing Humanity&#8221; leave trails of fire in their wake, while bruisers &#8220;Rex Mundi&#8221; and &#8220;Dead Land Seasons&#8221; will leave you bruised and broken in the dirt. This one-two punch continues throughout the album, reaching its climax on &#8220;The Shapeless Almighty,&#8221; blending the best of both worlds.<\/p>\n<p>And then, just like that, it&#8217;s over. The music blows over you like a whirlwind and cuts off at the end of &#8220;The Shapeless Almighty,&#8221; suddenly dropping into a short but ominous\u00a0acoustic outro. It&#8217;s a jarring transition to say the least; really, it&#8217;s more like driving into a brick wall at top speed without wearing a seat belt. The album builds a ton of momentum over its 36-minute duration, and that sudden stop will send you hurdling through your windshield.<\/p>\n<p><em>Above the Unworthy<\/em> is available <a href=\"https:\/\/ungodlyruinsproductions.bandcamp.com\/album\/above-the-unworthy\" target=\"_blank\">now<\/a>, and Demiurgon can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Demiurgon?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>.
