Trying to keep up with new music is painful. Just when you think that it’s starting to slow down and give you some time to clear out your considerable backlog, Grafvitnir and Teitanblood decide to drop new albums in the same week. Plus, you’ve come across a handful of bands you’ve never heard of that have some awesome songs out, and your backlog just got that much bigger. You may never catch up, but at least you’re in good company; W. and I have picked out a couple of the choicest cuts to save you some time. Let us know what else we need to hear, that we may all suffer in solidarity.

Murg – Gudatall (Nordvis) [Black Metal] Judging by the one track available on Bandcamp, Murg’s Gudatall is going to be quite the suffocating release. I especially like the way that the rhythm and lead guitars in “Mästarens resa i mörkret” are off-sync, inducing vertigo in the listener while the parched croaks beckon you to oblivion. Keep your eye on this one. 12/16/16 (W.)

Æðra – Perseiderna (Naturmacht Productions) [Black Metal] If you’re at all familiar with Naturmacht Productions’ roster of artists, then you already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Æðra; atmospheric black metal that, while somewhat familiar, is undeniably soulful and well-crafted. Æðra differentiate themselves by taking a progressive turn in the vein of bands such as Woman Is The Earth or Oak Pantheon, as well as tasteful use of downtuned guitars and some brief guttural vocals. Add in some gorgeous clean guitars and Perseiderna becomes a must-have for fans of the genre. 12/17/16 (Spear)

Aksaya – Kepler (Satanath Records) [Death Metal] Anticlockwise – Raise Your Head (Revalve Records) [Prog Metal] Atropina – Porões das Luxúrias (Cianeto Discos) [Death Metal] Azotador – Enganche al Grinche (The Orchard) [Thrash]

Bärglar – AnarKism (Independent) [Obnoxiously Raw Black Metal]

Black Cilice – Nocturnal Mysticism (Iron Bonehead Productions) [Black Metal]

Blood Tyrant – Aristocracy of Twilight (Iron Bonehead Productions) [Black Metal] Castigator – The Recommencement (Bound By Modern Age Records) [Death Metal] Chronicle – Memento Mori (Indpendent) [Blackened Thrash] Conjuring Fate – Valley of Shadows (Independent) [Power Metal] Cursed 13 – Into Ashes (Carnal Records) [Black Metal]

Daedric Tales – Cult of Ashes (Independent) [Symphonic Metal] Dork Portrait – Α Harrowing Atrocity (Xperiment XIII) [Symphonic Black Metal] Ghoulgotha/Ruin – Churning in Vertebraes / Becoming Disease (split- Blood Harvest) [Death Metal] Grafvitnir – Obeisance to a Witch Moon (Carnal Records/Daemon Worship) [Black Metal] Grok – A Spineless Descent (EEE Recordings) [Black Metal]

Inquiring Blood – Morbid Creation (Kernkraftritter Records) [Death Metal] Kerker – Ban All Lights (Nihilistische KlangKunst) [Black Metal] Knights of Round – The Meaning of Life (Walkure Records) [Power Metal] Lord Symphony – The End of Time (Independent) [Clipping. Clipping Everywhere] Lucifer’s Fall – II: Cursed & Damned (Nine Records) [Doom] Lux Divina – Walk Within the Riddle (Einheit Produktionen) [Black Metal] Machinae Supremacy – Into the Night World (Hubnester Records) [Powerish Metal/Chiptune] Mega Colossus – Hyperglaive (Independent) [Power Metal] Mephistopheles – Butchering of Human Depraved – Promo 2016 (Independent) [Brutal Death Metal]

Omnizide – NekroRegime (Carnal/Daemon Worship) [Black Metal] Raven Lord – Down the Wasteland (Dream Records) [Heavy Metal] Realms of Odoric – Second Age (MDD Records) [Contemporary Classical/Soundtrack] Rivette – In Vertigo (Independent) [Rock] Scythelord – Toxic Minds (Independent) [Death/Thrash] Sepulchral Curse – At the Onset of Extinction (Transcending Obscurity) [Death Metal] Teitanblood – Accursed Skin (Norma Evangelium Diaboli) [Black/Death Metal]

Tengger Cavalry – kAAn (Independent) [Folk Metal] Trauer – A Walk Into the Twilight (Nihilistische KlangKunst) [DSBM] Witches’ Sabbath – Witches’ Sabbath (Independent) [Black Metal] Witchtower – Hammer of Witches (Eventhink Metal Records) [Heavy Metal] Did we forget a new release?
