Let&#8217;s dive in!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tech news:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dying Fetus<\/strong>\u00a0released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PRnBMDiTWpE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another song<\/a> from\u00a0<em>Wrong One To Fuck With<\/em>, an album title which at least three middle-aged\u00a0men looked at and agreed, &#8220;Yes, this is a good idea.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a new\u00a0<strong>Pyrrhon<\/strong> album on the way for all you skronk fiends. Spoiler alert: it&#8217;s weird. Look for that on <a href=\"https:\/\/pyrrhonband.bandcamp.com\/album\/what-passes-for-survival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 11th<\/a>, out via Willowtip Records.<\/li>\n<li>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6-FgIcW02kg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new song<\/a> from <strong>Dark Matter Secret<\/strong> for your parched\u00a0ear-throats. Come, quench your\u00a0thirst on the sweet life-giving weedlies.<\/li>\n<li>I don&#8217;t know who or what\u00a0<strong>Ezerath<\/strong> is, but <a href=\"https:\/\/ezerath.bandcamp.com\/album\/overture-the-heir-apparent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this track<\/a> is siiiiiick. Look for\u00a0<em>Overture: The Heir Apparent<\/em> on June 23rd if you like your tech with big fantasy storylines.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Essence of Datum<\/strong>\u00a0have a new album on the way for June 20th. Give &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/essenceofdatum.bandcamp.com\/album\/nevermore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Animal<\/a>&#8221; a listen if you&#8217;re into the likes of\u00a0<strong>Angel Vivaldi<\/strong> and other such virtuosos.<\/li>\n<li>I liked <strong>Dawn of Dementia&#8217;s<\/strong> debut full-length <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/tech-death-thursday-dawn-of-dementia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quite a bit<\/a>, and now it&#8217;s getting a physical release on <a href=\"http:\/\/inheritedsuffering.bigcartel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Inherited Suffering Records<\/a>. If you haven&#8217;t listened to it already, stop what you&#8217;re doing now and go fix that. Actually, listen to today&#8217;s band first. THEN go listen to it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"100\" src=\"http:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/album=1964088719\/size=venti\/bgcol=FFFFFF\/linkcol=4285BB\/\" style=\"position:relative;display:block;width:400px;height:100px;\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Those of you who&#8217;ve been around here for awhile may remember\u00a0<strong>Raster Density<\/strong> earning some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toiletovhell.com\/tech-death-thursday-raster-density\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kind words<\/a> from Jack Bauer back in the early days of the blog. They deserved it, too;\u00a0<em>Ov Hands and Bestial Pleasure<\/em>, the group&#8217;s 2014 album, was savage and brutal, but not as straightforward as one might expect. On top of some surprisingly complex guitar work, there were bursts of progressive riffing that brought a more cerebral angle to their music. They tended to pop up out of nowhere, and while they were a little jarring, they kept the music interesting and unpredictable. The band took a well-established style and made it their own.<\/p>\n<p>The followup,\u00a0<em>Mother ov Mankind<\/em>, isn&#8217;t a change in sound so much as a refinement of what they had built on their previous work. All the same elements are still in play- the dynamic vocals, the deceptively tricky instrumentation, the prog flourishes- but the songwriting has been tightened up significantly. The two formerly disparate aspects of their sound are now woven seamlessly together, making for a much smoother listening experience. The quieter moments have been fleshed out and brought closer to the forefront as well; they&#8217;re less like breaks now, serving to push the songs ahead rather than just providing a respite from the heavier parts.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"100\" src=\"http:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/track=3751744010\/size=venti\/bgcol=FFFFFF\/linkcol=4285BB\/\" style=\"position:relative;display:block;width:400px;height:100px;\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>That increased focus on songwriting has contributed not just to the flow of each individual song, but to the variety of the album as well.\u00a0<em>Ov Hands<\/em> was, even with its quirks, pretty similar to bands such as\u00a0<strong>Hideous Divinity<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Hour of Penance<\/strong> with its constant aggression and raw speed.\u00a0<em>Mother<\/em>, on the other hand, mixes things up quite a bit. &#8220;To Be Leered, Abused, and Shamed&#8221; is big, beefy low-mid tempo bruiser filled with diminished runs and filthy harmonics. &#8220;Blood Induced Mass Psychosis&#8221; goes the other direction, with a frenetic main riff that falls away to a chill groove and a smooth, tapped, clean guitar lead. It reminds me of\u00a0the latest\u00a0<strong>Replacire<\/strong> album in that way; despite the way it twists and turns, the album is super tight and refined, and it always feels natural.<\/p>\n<p>Raster Density haven&#8217;t lost a step in the past three years.\u00a0<em>Mother ov Mankind<\/em> is smart and fun, and it&#8217;s a step forward for the band. It won&#8217;t be for everyone- the production matches the music in cleanliness, and some people will certainly like one side of their sound over the other- but I feel like the majority of tech death fans will be on board with this.
