Welcome once more to This Toilet Tuesday! The tide of new music washing in over the past couple months finally seems to have stemmed somewhat, much to the relief of our wallets/free time. DumpsterLung, BertBanana, and I have each picked out something worthy of your time; let us know what else we need to hear.

Desultory – Through Aching Aeons (Pulverised Records) [Death Metal] NEW DESULTORY — GET HYPE. I’ve always loved their classic material from the early ’90s, the golden age of Swedish (Stockholm) death metal, but I somehow missed the memo about their reunion 8 years ago! They put out an album in 2010 that I just now found out was a perfect follow-up to the sound they had on their first 2 albums: melodic, thrashy, old-school Swedish death metal, but not quite what you’d call “melodeath” in the Gothenburg sense of the word. This isn’t about the album I should’ve been listening to for the past seven years, though. As refreshingly good as 2010’s Counting Our Scars was, Through Aching Aeons sounds like it will be every bit as good, if not even better. The 2 tracks they’ve premiered so far really rip, always maintaining the sense of melodic melancholy they’re known for, whether they’re thrashing full speed ahead or playing beautifully despondent leads. Their current sound seems like it would fit nicely between their first two albums, keeping the emphasis on melody that defined Bitterness, but bringing back the extra bite and thrashing immediacy of Into Eternity. Unfortunately, as much as I’m looking forward to Through Aching Aeons, it’s a bittersweet sort of enthusiasm, since apparently this is to be Desultory’s last studio album together, and while I’m not sure why they’re choosing to throw in the towel, I am sure this is going to be one hell of a swansong. 6/23/17 (DumpsterLung)

Abonation – The Mortal World and Gallery End of Era (Rottrevore/Force Fed) [Death Metal] It seems that the more tenuous an Indonesian death metal band’s grasp of the English language is, the better the music is going to be. Given that information, you can pretty easily determine based on the album title that Abonation are pretty damn solid. While they don’t offer the slams or gutturals of many of their peers, they make up for it with the savagery of their dark melodic riffage. The song available, of which they seem to have forgotten to title (EVEN BETTER), opens up with some sweet church organ and male choir before exploding forth in a burst of rapid-fire tremolo and blastbeats. It sounds like it’s going to be fairly straightforward, but catchy as all hell. 6/19/17 (Spear)

Dying Fetus – Wrong One to Fuck With (Relapse Records) [Brutal Death Metal] You know damn FUCKing well I didn’t FUCK around with this release. This is the wrong one to FUCK with. Flat out, this FUCKer FUCKing rips FUCKing hard. If anything, it FUCKs back. It’s just so relentless. For whatever reason, I get the impression that Dying Fetus is trying to prove something with this record… like they aren’t a band to FUCK with. However, this was already an established fact. All this record does is reaffirm that. It’s great to sing along with. It’s got tuff guy riffs. Rad solos. Relentless drums. I expect that song to be getting cranked in every metalhead’s car while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for 2 hours in 40 degree (Celsius) weather. The only thing I’m bummed about is not ordering that rad knife. How am I going to cut up my tangerines and mangoes? But straight up, if you haven’t bought this album yet, ya dun FUCKed up. 6/23/17 (BertBanana)
