Welcome once more to This Toilet Tuesday! If I’m being honest, there wasn’t much this week to capture my attention, but Hans has a couple solid sludge picks for you. Perhaps I didn’t look hard enough, but I can only take so many terrible power metal vocalists before I start to relapse into my alcoholism and black out at the keyboard. Let everyone know what doesn’t suck and save us some pain.

Shitshifter – Pyre (Independent) [Blackened Sludge] Picked this one partly to save you the trouble of looking for the best band name this week, but mostly because Shitshifter are straight-up fire. There is a sludgy element to the sound – it’s grimy as hell and things slow down for the last minute of the preview track – but these guys are right at home with d- and blast beats, and if their previous effort is any indication, those will be pretty prevalent throughout the record. A dense and noisy affair, Shitshifter seem capable of delivering quite a bludgeoning. And damn, Shitshifter is so much fun to say. 9/1/17 (Hans)

Monte Luna – Monte Luna (Independent) [Sludge/Doom] Monte Luna remind me a lot of Bongripper. They’ve got those syrupy, monotone stoner riffs down to a T, and manage to deliver them in a manner as hypnotizing as it is hard-hitting. To this solid foundation, they add a singer who turns out to be surprisingly varied, covering a good amount of ground between drunken, drawn-out crooning, downright caustic shrieking, and some barking growls. Both preview tracks end with about two minutes of ambient noise, which seems like wasted riff-space if you ask me, but nonetheless, there’s no doubt you could pick a far worse soundtrack to pack a bowl to. 9/2/17 (Hans)

Besatt – Anticross (Zero Dimensional Records) [Black Metal] I’ve been feeling burned out on black metal lately, but Besatt might just reel me back in. They have that skronky goodness I so crave, plus a bunch of other cool stuff going on. The opening riff to “Engraved Face” brings Suffering Hour to mind, and the music stays consistently intricate throughout. Not in a tech-death noodly sort of way, either; each instrument is doing something distinct from the others, building layers of harmony. The Batushka-style chorus at the end makes me all the more excited for the full release; keep an eye on this one. 9/1/17 (Spear)

Alder Glade – Spine of the World (Independent) [Folk/Black Metal] Anubis Gate – Covered in Black (Nightmare Records) [Power Prog] At Dusk/Sacerdos – At Dusk/Sacerdos (split- Pacific Threnodies) [Black Metal] Atorc – Seven Tales of Swords & Ale (Independent) [Folk Metal]

The Black Wizards – What the Fuzz! (Independent) [Doom/Rock] Contrive – Slow Dissolve (Independent) [Groove Metal] The Convalescence – This Is Hell (Unique Leader Records) [Deathcore] Coughdust – Worldwrench (Suicide Records) [Sludge] Disfigured Human Mind/Insomnia Isterica – Morbid Schizophrenic Minds in the Cabaret Noisecore (split- Murder Records) [Grind/Noise] Disfigured Human Mind/New York Against the Belzebub – Só Queremos Dizer Merda e Meter Nojo (split- Murder Records) [Grind/Noise] Dutchguts/Chained to the Dead (split- Horror Pain Gore Death) [Punk/Sludge/Death Metal] Epica – The Solace System (Nuclear Blast Records) [Deviantart Metal] FireForce – Annihilate the Evil (Limb Music) [Power Metal] Great Vast Forest – From the Dark Times to the Black Metal Legions (Independent) [Black Metal] The Hole – The Wrath (Necromance Records) [Death Metal] Impalers – The Celestial Dictator (Initium/Evil Eye) [Thrash] Implements of Hell – Propitiatory Punishment (Amputated Vein Records) [Slamdring, the Foe-Slammer] Incarnal – Mortuary Cult (Via Nocturna) [Death Metal] Inherithrone – Revelación svprema del nuevo eón (Independent) [Brutal Death Metal] In Somnia – For the Harvest (Via Nocturna) [Melodeath] Lepra – Whom Aeons Tore Apart (Drakkar Productions) [Black Metal] Lethal Night – Visions in the Night (Independent) [Speed Metal] Leucosis – Liminal (Sentient Ruin Laboratories) [Black Metal] Lilyum – Altar of Fear (Vacula Productions) [Black Metal] Magenta Harvest – …and Then Came the Dust (Apostasy Records) [Melodeath] Medebor – Dark Eternal (Via Nocturna) [Gothic Metal] Motörhead – Under Cöver (Motörhead Music) [Heavy Metal] Nemecic – The Deathcantation (Inverse Records) [Death/Thrash] Nigajyo – Janus (Mother Sky Tapes) [Black Metal] Night – Raft of the World (The Sign Records) [Rock/Heavy Metal] Nino Helfrich – Hourglass (Independent) [Melodeath, sort of] Orationem – Trve Holy Black Metal (Vision of God Records) [Black Metal] Ovarian Despoilment – Ustulate Monuments (Show No Mercy Records) [Brutal Death Metal] Paradise Lost – Medusa (Nuclear Blast Records) [Death/Doom] Reptilian Illuminati – Dark/Light (Independent) [Conspiracy Doom] Rezet – You Asked for It (Soulfood/Believe Digital) [Thrash] River of Time – Revival (Art of the Night Productions) [Thrash/Heavy Metal] Sator – Ordeal (Argonauta Records) [Sludge/Doom] Scimitar – Where Darkness Dwells (Independent) [Thrash] Septicflush – Codex Omega (Prosthetic/Season of Mist) [Symphonic Death Metal] Silius – Hell Awakening (Massacre Records) [Thrash] Stonehand – Дом на холме (Independent) [Heavy Metal] Subterranean Masquerade – Vagabond (Vicisolum Records) [Prog Rock/Metal] Sxuperion – Myriad (Bloody Mountain Records) [Death Metal] Thunder Fall – Glorious a New World (Black Listed Productions) [Power Metal] Watcher’s Guard – Watcher’s Guard (Independent) [Doom] When Bitter Spring Sleeps – Star-Thrown (Pagan Flames Productions) [Choral Black Metal] Zorr – Last Bastion of Black Imperial Might (Pagan Infantry Records) [Black Metal] Did we forget a new release?
