It is once more Toilet Tuesday and god damn, bands, please stop putting out music. I can’t keep up. Nobody can. We’re coming up on the time of year that usually sees a slump in releases, and yet they still keep coming strong. Hans and I have highlighted a couple notable albums, but rest assured there’s plenty more below.

Corporate Death – Reborn (Misanthropic Records) [Death Metal] Really digging the energy on display here. Coming out the gate like a battering ram with sober, yet gnarly production that saves the band’s technical flourishes from drowning. They never get too tech, mind you, just enough to make you perk up and go, “Huh, I wouldn’t have thought of that,” and then it goes right back to the battering. Still effective after my tenth or so listen. 11/30/17 (Hans)

Onirism / Pure Wrath – Endless Journey (split- Throats Productions) [Atmospheric Black Metal] Don’t let that genre tag fool you; this isn’t just some spacey synths drowning out endless mopey chord droning and shrieking. Endless Journey is beautiful and melodic, with both sides offering up their own taste of grand synthesized orchestral black metal. Some may find it a bit hammy, but I couldn’t help but get swept up in the vision it presents. 12/1/17 (Spear)

Annihilation – The Undivided Wholeness of All Things (Nice To Eat You Records) [Brutal Death Metal] There are bands who can write a competent album within the confines of their particular genre, and then there are those who look at the genre and say, “Fuck all that.” Annihilation are distinctly and proudly part of the latter camp; while the gurgled vocals and huge, ugly riffs are certainly hallmarks of brutal death, their approach to songwriting is much more methodical and contemplative than the majority of their peers. This is slow and uncomfortable, sludgy and oftentimes dissonant, but never repetitive. Even the lyrics eschew the typical blood’n’guts in favor of spiritual musings and mysticism. In short, it’s really fucking good. 11/28/17 (Spear)

01101111011101100110111001101001 – S / 2 0 0 4 S 3 (Pathologically Explicit Recordings) [Brutal Death Metal] 3rd
