\nListen to “Ce que le corps doit au sol”<\/a><\/p>\n

Starts with a slow buildup but works its way towards quite the impressive crescendo soon enough. Yet more impressive is that despite the nearly overwhelming din, vocals and guitar still manage to express quite some emotional nuance. The former changing to a growl later on was a nice surprise. It might go on for a wee bit too long, but they do change up the dynamic a bit towards the end, where everything simmers down a bit. FFO: Paramnesia, possibly Sun Worship, and similar post-black ilk. 2\/13\/18<\/strong> (Hans)<\/p>\n

My Silent Wake – There Was Death (Minotauro Records) [Regal Death\/Doom]<\/strong>
\nListen to “There Was Death,”<\/a>\u00a0“Killing Flaw”<\/a><\/p>\n

If you like the medieval theme of bands like\u00a0Sarpanitum<\/strong> and\u00a0Obsequiae<\/strong>, you’ll want to check this out. The application of that theme to death doom gives is a big, sweeping sound that works so well it’s surprising you don’t hear more of it. It’s grand and melancholy, the sound of a kingdom in decline.\u00a02\/16\/18<\/strong> (Spear)<\/p>\n

NovaReign – Legends (M-Theory Audio) [Power Prog]<\/strong>
\nListen to “Beyond the Cold”<\/a><\/p>\n

NovaReign<\/strong> brings in some of the best aspects of power metal together with “Beyond the Cold;” it’s both riff-driven and grandiose, and it just feels good. This particular tune is more “power” than “prog,” but they show some impressive composition chops in the middle section. It doesn’t lose its sense of fun when it starts getting complex, which is exactly what this kind of music needs.\u00a02\/16\/18<\/strong> (Spear)<\/p>\n
