Transcendence arrives in the form of pulverizing riffs.

It was just a little over a year ago that Engulf, the one man New Jersey death metal machine masterminded by Hal Microutsicos (Blasphemous, ex-Chapel of Ruin), dropped the most excellent Gold and Rust EP on us and killed us all to death. Well, good news everyone! Engulf is back to kill us all dead again with Transcend, and I’ve got an exclusive premiere right here for you all.

Microutsicos says of the EP:

“A continuation of the story arc introduced by the Gold and Rust EP, Transcend follows our human protagonist through an out of body experience in which he witnesses the three otherworldly entities as they travel to earth through portals unknown to execute ‘the event.'”

It isn’t just the story that’s a continuation though. Sonically, Transcend offers up more of the brutal Morbid Angel with unhinged Luc Lemay vox that won us over in the first place, but now it’s on steroids and dragging you into the pit. From front to back this EP just fucking GOES, only relenting to drop a little skronk on you like a fine spice on top of a bloody, meaty cake. Now please, instead of asking why I’m spicing cakes, smash that motherfuckin’ play button and listen to one of the best death metal EPs of the year.
