There are few sounds more upsetting than a wailing infant; with their latest album, Noise Trail Immersion replicates musically the swell of anxiety, fear, and anger that arises when confronted with pure belligerence. From the first moments of “Arde e Respira,” a tantrum of scraping vocals and eerie, chiming riffs (in the vein of Execration (NO) and Yellow Eyes) bombards listeners; only rarely does a recognizable groove emerge to ground our ears and hearts. There’s just enough melody throughout the two preview tracks to keep a coward like me curious and invested in this dense and volatile album.
