This Toilet Tuesday (9/8/20)
It’s new music time, folks. Time to drop whatever you’re doing and listen to a hundred new albums back to back. Not much stuck out to me this week, save for Spectrum of Delusion (which I already reviewed), but we’ve highlighted a couple that might be worth a listen. Give them a shot, and let us know if there’s more we should give a chance.
Drachenorden – Mediaevalia Rinascimento (Independent) [Medieval Black Metal]

While I’m no expert on medieval music or even really care for slow-burning black metal that much, the idea of black metal composed entirely of medieval instruments was too interesting to pass up. Mediaevalia Rinascimento is a double album, half of which is lute-driven black metal, and the other half of which is “a renaissance poetic tale of great knights and kings, venerable ladies and valiant victories. Combined with music from 1551, Het derde musyck boexken … alderhande danserye and Lovidalf’s own ambient works.” I’m not even a hundred percent sure I like it yet, but you can bet I’m down to listen to a bunch of dudes shrieking over a theorbo. 9/9/20
Void Rot – Descending Pillars (Everlasting Spew) [Death Doom]

If you’ve ever listened to Spectral Voice or Rippikoulu or any number of other death-doom bands, you know what you’re going to get from Void Rot. It’s not breaking any new ground, but it sounds good enough and has interesting enough compositions that I’m not really sure I care. Good for when you want to get your grime on. 9/11/20 (Spear)
