This week is stacked, featuring a wide variety of releases from all over the metalsphere; I actually had a hard time choosing which bands to cover this week because there was so much good stuff. Eclipser – Pages (Independent) [Black/Death Metal]

Black metal is at its best when it’s secretly death metal, and Eclipser shows exactly why that is. The two songs up for streaming present an intriguing blend of hazy, dissonant black metal and dark melodies; it’s reminiscent of Setentia, had they a more emotive vocalist. In any case, it’s incredibly promising, and I highly recommend you check this out if you like disso shit, but not too skronky. 5/28/21 (Spear)
Graveborn – Transmigrator (Independent) [Tech Deathcore]

As far as I’m concerned, Graveborn is the best deathcore band in the biz right now. Their 2018 album, The Athenaeum, showed that there is still plenty of room for the genre to grow, and Transmigrator is a step up from that in every respect. The songwriting is tight, the production is excellent, and the breakdowns will somehow both double your gray matter and the slope of your forehead. This one’s a no-brainer for deathcore fans, and even those who typically see that genre tag as a dirty word will want to give this a shot. 5/25/21 (Spear)
