Premiere: The Spiral Continuum – “Blood Oiled Machinery”
There’s a time and a place for subtlety, and this isn’t it.
You probably don’t need me to tell you how frustrating it is to live under capitalism, particularly if you’re among our American readership. You’ve almost certainly been screwed by our broken health care and education systems at some point or another. There’s a new horror story every day of the US-backed ethnic cleansing being carried out in Gaza, and that is only one of the ongoing atrocities given the seal of approval by the States. We see these things happen, and the majority of us will carry on with our lives as normal. That is where the true frustration lies: in knowledge of our complacency, whether that’s born of the unwillingness to put oneself in the line of fire or the inability of our voices to affect any meaningful impact on our government.
“Blood Oiled Machinery,” the newest single from The Spiral Continuum, is a distillation of that frustration into song. To be clear, it isn’t an indictment of the listener, focusing its ire at the atrocities themselves. While “fuck the system” songs are a dime a dozen, I’ll admit it’s nice to hear one coming out of a genre I’m more personally inclined to engage with. This is polished and flashy melodic death metal with a strong technical flair, a sort of Xoth by way of Unflesh sound with a four-pronged vocal approach.
Anyway, you’re probably sick of me preaching at you, so just hit play and enjoy the song:
