Farken eh, that’s a lot of music. In stark contrast to last week, there’s a hefty amount of good shit down there as well (though there was almost as much fash garbage as last time too, which sucks). As always, let us know if there’s anything we missed or anything of particular note that you want folks to hear.
Sarcoptes – Prayers to Oblivion (Transcending Obscurity) [Black Metal]
Everyone’s favorite “thrash” band is back and arguably better than ever. They definitely sound better than ever, with a sharp and clean production job that’s miles ahead of the somewhat squashed sound of the debut and the slightly too crispy tone on the last EP. I like how much it brings out the vocals; they have a raw bite that serves to make the spooky synths and intricate riffs feel more grounded. The music is replete with harmonies and counterpoints, always in motion be it through aggressive headbanging parts or the atmospheric tremolo-and-blast combo endemic to black metal. Guitar aficionados will find a lot to love here especially, with some cool interplay between the instruments and some excellent lead work. 2/24/23 (Spear)
