This Toilet Tuesday (11/3/20)
This Tuesday is particularly Toilet, so hopefully we can help take the edge off with some new tunes. Hans and I have picked out a couple albums to highlight that may have otherwise flown under the radar, and there’s a lot more to pick through down below. Shaidar Logoth – Chapter III: The Void God (House of Wolf and Crow) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Consume Pieces of God”
As fantasy nerds will recognize right away, the band’s subject matter is the Wheel of Time books, from which they previously crafted two noisy, murky, abrasive offerings. I was therefore surprised to hear the extremely clean sound of “Consume Pieces of God;” both the instruments and the vocals have lost a lot of the rawness that made the music a painful treat. It’s also an extremely straightforward song for the most part, although the unprecedented d-beat and the middle part leave me carefully optimistic that there is some grander design at play here and they’ll switch things up throughout the record. 11/6/20 (Hans)
Vacuous – Katabasis (Independent) [Death Metal]

The good folks in Vacuous have spent quarantine on that noblest of pursuits: writing dirty-ass death metal jams. Their demo from earlier this year covered an impressive amount of ground in three songs, but even if Katabasis takes a more focused approach, it’s still going to be a banger if “Unmarked Grave” is anything to go by. It also sounds a lot better while still being grimy, something that any death metal band should aspire to. 11/6/20 (Spear)
