Distances‘ mixture of sludge and post-metal is a perfect musical allegory to my feelings about the world lately, somber one moment and raging the next. “Soak” isn’t a particularly complex song, but it’s a damn good one; the central melodies and progressions work equally well across all range of emotions and sound, and they’re some pretty sweet melodies to boot. It all sounds great, too, so I’m really looking forward to the full release of this one. 4/10/20 (Spear)
