If you’ve been out of the loop for a while, you may be new to the symphonic-black-thrash outfit Sarcoptes. And if that is the case you can catch up with Dubz’s review of their debut Songs of Dances and Death, his subsequent interview with Sean and Garrett, or a Mini Review I wrote about their sophomore LP Prayers to Oblivion. Needless to say they’re Toilet Approved™, and today we’re premiering a gorgeous video for “Tet” off the new album.

The band has this to say about it:

The song title “Tet” is a reference to the Tet Offensive, a series of coordinated counter offensives by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War which began during the Lunar New Year of 1968. While the strategy ultimately failed militarily it had the effect of both surprising the American public who were convinced the war was all but won and subsequently weakened support for the war”.

I wanted to include some technical details, because I did not know who was playing bass and drums in the video. In addition, I cannot praise the mixing and mastering of the music enough, it’s just massive. Sean has provided this additional information:

“For the video we rounded out the band’s roster to feature Marc Nocerino (Abhorrance, Forsake the Flesh etc.) on bass guitar and Gabe Seeber (Decrepit Birth, The Kennedy Veil, etc.) on drums. The song was engineered, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren at Sharkbite Studios, Oakland CA. The video for this song was filmed on January 22nd at Soundwave Studios, Oakland CA. by Loudspeaker Productions (Michelle Nisbet and Marshall Wieczorek).”

Prayers to Oblivion covers five historical atrocities ranging from World War I to the Vietnam War across five epic tracks. Goddam I do love history. If you are interested in these topics, I do recommend Blueprint For Armageddon by Dan Carlin and The Vietnam War series on PBS. Or read some books if you’re not dumb like me 😉

Snag yourself a copy of Prayers to Oblivion on BandCamp (Transcending Obscurity) because it is spectacular. And give them a follow on Instagram!
