The Best Band in Wyoming is Reproacher
Back in August 2014 we asked you to help us find the best unsigned bands in America. After listening to hundreds of submissions and fighting a lot, we finally narrowed down our pick for the least populous but most cowboyin’est state. The best band in Wyoming is Reproacher.
For those of you keeping score at home, Wyoming is the last state alphabetically, and therefore the last selection in our very exclusive process. It’s been a long, long journey and this is a bittersweet moment for this basement-dwelling metal blogger. Our extensive travels across this magnificent union have brought us to this, Wyoming, our final destination.
Super quick facts about Wyoming:
- It is home to Yellowstone, the first and one of the most famous national parks.
- Wyoming was the first state to give women the right to vote.
- Cheyenne, the most populous city, has a total of around 60,000 residents.
- Needless to say, there’s not a whole hell of a lot happening.
Which is why we’re all so pleasantly surprised to find Reproacher. Before we do anything, let’s listen to “Casemate” from 2013 full-length Nothing to Save. The band wallops listeners with the kind of heavily downtuned frequencies that wouldn’t be out of place on a Harms Way record. Hungry for more tracks like this? Check out their Bandcamp.
The two songs from Reproacher’s split 7″ with Denver’s Of Feather and Bone might be their most crushing work yet. The band shifts seamlessly from straight-forward hardcore bark to slow and lurching sludge. Fans of Trap Them and Full of Hell will find an awful lot to jam here. Go like Reproacher on Facebook and tell ’em the Terlet sez “Howdy”.
But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what some of our judges had to say:
W.: Reproacher prove that Dick Cheney isn’t the most lethal thing roaming the wilds of Wyoming.
Ron Deuce: Combining the crusty hardcore of Cursed with Primitive Man‘s doominess, Reproacher are a fierce beast from an unexpected realm. Their music is corrosive enough to destroy sewage pipes that will leak and contaminate entire cities with their filth.
Join us next week when we finally pit each state’s champion against each other. It’ll be a bloodbath.
The Toilet ov Hell is on an absurd quest to find the best unsigned band in each state of this glorious union. The purpose? To shine the spotlight on bands that deserve more exposure. Also, we’re going to determine once and for all the greatest state in the nation. Each state winner is decided by a collection of 25 judges. After we’ve announced the winner of each state, we’re gonna throw them all in a winner-take-all bracket and leave the votes up to you. Who will be the best unsigned band in the United States? Which state is superior? We can’t wait to find out.
