New Music Redux: Falls of Rauros, Kayo Dot, Couch Slut and More
Just the other day, our venerable comrade W. nobly attempted to bring you all the best new jams. Alas, he spoke too soon, and a plethora of fantastic tunes have gone up for your listening pleasure in the mere hours since his post went up. I’m sure dozens more have gone up just in the time it’s taken me to write these sentences, but you win some, you lose some, or something. Let’s check out some new music.

The paragons of good taste and class at No Clean Singing are streaming “The Vessel of Orichalcum”, the first track from Oraculum’s upcoming EP Sorcery of the Damned. The song managed to pack into its 5 minutes nearly everything I love in death metal: slow, trudging riffs, unintelligible vocals, tempo changes with no rhyme or reason and a solo that sounds like every member of Slayer in a blender. Sorcery of the Damned comes out October 27th on Invictus Productions.
A mere day after I first wrote about them, Couch Slut have debuted a new track at AdHoc. “Split Urethra Castle” is a churning, grinding vision of horror drawing amply on the crushing noise rock stomp of early Swans, or as our editor-in-chief so aptly put it, “this song is wicked bad vibes.” If you told me My Life as a Woman was a lost AmRep gem from 1994 I’d be inclined to believe you; presently, the album comes out October 6th on Handshake, Inc.

Believe in No Coming Shore, the new album from Falls of Rauros, is now streaming in full via Noisey. To my ears, the band strikes a balance somewhere between Agalloch and Sólstafir, so you nerds should like it. Get the album from Bindrune Recordings here.
Stench’s new album Venture is also streaming in full via Decibel here. I haven’t had time to make it through the whole album yet but it’s sounding solid so far; the band’s core sound is still present alongside the welcome addition of subtle layers of keyboards. Venture comes out October 7th on Agonia Records, who have some details on the album here.
NPR are streaming another stellar new track from Kayo Dot’s upcoming seventh album, Coffins on Io. Much like the first single, “Library Subterranean”, “The Morality of Doves” is a gorgeous synth-laden ballad wrapped in washes of reverberating guitars and evocative vocals an incredible, writhing climax. Coffins on Io is set for release on October 14th; preorder it from The Flenser here.
