Some of you reading this may find yourself unfamiliar with the name Voidthrone, and as the Toilet’s resident dweller of all things disso, allow me to familiarize you with something special. You see, this little underground group based out of Seattle has been a project that has piqued my interest for quite some time. Their previous album Metaphysical Degradation is an exercise designed to stretch your psyche and pummel your senses. I mean, just look at the album art and you should know what’s in store:

Well my Toileteers, I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to premiere the opening track for their forthcoming new LP, titled Dreaming Rat. The album opener is “First Blood” and I am pleased to announce it is just as heavy, demented, and unpredictable as its predecessors. Using the teachings of genre giants Gorguts, but with a much greater maniacal and chaotic execution, vocalist Zhenya Frolov belts and shrieks his way into auditory nightmares, complete with a near-DSBM howling section that is sure to titillate the small hairs on the back of your neck. This time around, the bass stands out more predominately with its twisting runs up and down the fret-board. Harrowing chords are paired with a drum performance designed to make you sweat just by listening as the song then ends in an acoustic comedown from the putridity that was just forced upon you.

Perhaps the track is best left described as such from the band themselves:

A dissonant death metal meat-slab that dissolves and mutates into a blackened, transcendent collapse.

I can hardly add anything that would be better than that descriptor. So tell me, is this your introduction to Voidthrone, or are you a sicko like me chomping at the bit for Dreaming Rat? All I know is the new album better have conch shell on it again, or else!

Dreaming Rat releases independently May 8th. Pre-order it here.
