TAG DIVING: FEAR

What’s the matter, scared?

Looks like it’s that time of the week again! Yes siree, it’s Tag Diving time. Tag Diving, for the unmitigated, is much like dumpster diving except instead of jumping into someone’s trash and finding a cracked watch that’s just missing the hands, I dive into Bandcamp for something that’s also measured in minutes. You’re in for a little bit of a short one this week, I’m afraid. I was pretty surprised with how little results there were, but the garbage man giveth and the garbage man taketh.

For the first offering of the day, I bring you Salt Lake City trad-metal band Blood Star’s two-track single The Fear. If you like what you hear on these two tracks, their full-length First Sighting doesn’t disappoint!

For find number two, we go now to Finland. Knucklehead Bastards definitely sounds like some kind of neo-Nazi oi! band, but as far as I can tell they’re chill. Truth is currently their only release, dropping all the way back in 2017. The record hits my ears as being kind of crossover thrashy, but I can think of at least three other ways to describe it. Anti-war lyrics will always have a place in my heart, and this album’s got plenty of ‘em.

Now for my favorite find: Dutch all-female crust punk band Nog Watt and their 7” Fear. Originally released in 1985, Fear was re-released in 2021. Think Discharge meets The Damned with a little bit of late-career Dead Kennedys thrown in there.

‘Preciate you peepin’! Same time next week?
