It’s Halloween week, and that means the outpouring of metal releases is too damn much to keep up with. Much as I tried to gather everything up this week, I simply did not have enough time to get through it all; I know there’s stuff missing, but there’s still a lot more on this list than the average week. Take a look, and let us know if there’s anything else we should hear that we glossed over.
Vials of Wrath – Dark Winter Memories (Flowing Downward) [Melodic Black Metal]

I love it when black metal focuses as much on acoustic guitar as electric, and the new Vials of Wrath is really doing it for me. Dark Winter Memories is an apt title; the music is cold and pensive, a slow melancholy that feels appropriate for the cooling weather. Maybe it’s just because we had our first real snowfall of the season last night, but this is exactly what I want in my ears right now. 10/28/19 (Spear)

If you missed it on the podcast, now’s your chance to get acquainted with Chthonic Deity. I was hooked immediately by that first riff, and it only gets bigger and heavier from there. It’s cavernous death metal that feels way more outwardly aggressive than most other acts in the scene, and I’m very much looking forward to the rest of it. 10/31/19 (Spear)
