Phantom Corporation – Time and Tide (Independent) [Death / Crust Punk]
I’ll admit it was the critters in the artwork that initially drew my eye, but the well-produced deathcrust quickly sunk its fangs in. With vocals reminiscent of Mike Scheidt’s work with Vhol (read: whiskey-soaked, hoarse, perhaps yelling at a child) and simple, effective tremolo riffs, Time and Tide will d-beat your ass before you can ask which boundaries this release is pushing. The answer is none, and to amplify this message, there’s a solo in lead single “Sorceror” ripped straight from TSoP-era Death (laudatory). There’s also a giant millipede on the CD art, and I think that’s real neato. -Roldy
