Track Premiere: Bronco Forte – Obvious Alias

Sick of winter yet? Maybe we can help to usher in summer with some desert-dwelling, cactus-kicking, dust-breathing stoner rock.
To be fair, given the overall pace of Lighning Scars, the upcoming debut from California’s Bronco Forte, stoner doom might be more accurate, but don’t expect the fuzzed-out walls of noise that usually come with the territory. No, these guys play it cool, painting their sandy vistas with lush, yet crisp guitar work and catchy clean vocals against a backdrop of muscular, laid back drums.
It’s those drums that kick off “Obvious Alias,” launching the track into a shuffling groove that refuses to be hurried as the lyrics lay another scene “chronicl[ing] the uncertain lives of ordinary people in the cities and wildernesses of California and beyond,” trading off the spotlight with low-slung, gritty riffing that rounds out the image of sweltering heat.
