Tag Diving: Sludge Part 2

I love industry. Pipes. I love fluid and smoke. I love man-made things. I like to see people hard at work, and I like to see sludge and man-made waste.
Welcome back to Tag Diving! You look new around these parts. What? I didn’t say it was a bad thing. In case you’re not familiar, this here is the weekly column where I, the ever-hygienic Reliquary Tower dive into the stew of suckiness that can sometimes be Bandcamp in search of bangers. Think of it like dumpster diving, except I’m not interested in an author-signed copy of How to Quit Using Human Feces as Pen Ink, no no, I’m looking for something even stankier: sludgy tunes this week. Last week’s haul was a pretty good one, so let’s see what’s on the menu this week!

Fange – Punir
I can’t remember who it was from the Discord who submitted a track from this album for Tunes N Tell a couple months back, but I want to thank you. This album sounds like if Bongripper was trying to kill you. Roldy described the guitar/bass on this album as having a “tone like pond scum,” and I can back that claim up. If you’re into industrial/noisy stuff, there’s plenty of that on this record too. I’ve yet to explore much else from their discography, but trust me, I’m going to.

Meth Drinker– S/T
If you’re not familiar with Meth Drinker, just imagine being forced to chug radioactive concrete while being zapped by an electric chair. That’s pretty much it. Have fun!
Thanatou – FE > 30
Just released this past Sunday, we’ve got some doomy, slightly dissonant sludge from a couple of lads from Chicago. FE > 30 is a pretty decent demo—short, sweet, and rough around the edges (in a good way). It’s got some solid riffs, pretty good vocals, and most incredible of all, they’re using a metronome. I’ll be keeping an eye on these lads. I’d love to see a full release in the future.
That’s all for Sludge 2: Electric Boogaloo! Hope this clogs your eardrums!
