Premiere: Xenosis – “Spore Whore”

We don’t slut-shame here.
If you’ve been hungry for some real TECH-ass tech death, we’ve got you covered. Tech Death Thursday alums Xenosis are back with their fifth album, Hermetic Transmutation, and we’ve got a choice cut from it with “Spore Whore.” Far be it from me to judge someone’s fetish; spores aren’t the weirdest thing I’ve heard of, so let’s hear them out.
As weird as it may seem, Xenosis has what I would consider a timeless sound in the sphere of tech and prog death. It doesn’t feel like it’s of a particular era; while you can point to Planetary Duality as a clear touchstone, it maintains a more clear structure through its progressive tendencies that you’d hear from more modern acts like Beyond Grace or Aethereus. It simultaneously recalls the more experimental heyday of the genre with parts that wouldn’t sound out of place on an Atheist record, and the more over-the-top vibe matches acts like Augury and Martyr. “Spore Whore” is the purest distillation of all these aspects into a single song, the clearest representation of Xenosis’s multifaceted take on tech death. It’s smart, and it’s harsh, but easy to follow its staggered groove, and its nasty melodies will induce stank face rather than headaches.
In short, it’s some truly excellent stuff, and I’m gonna stop blathering so you can jam it:
