This week, we’ve got very confused Hymenopterans, fleshless fauna, and oombop-core. Perhaps less fecund than last week’s crop of crap, there yet remains worthy salvage in these murky waters. To all stinky divers in the audience, I beseech you: grab your scuba tank, fill it with farts, and descend. And never trust a fart, that’s how you get the bends.

Profeci – Troska (Godz ov War Productions) [Black / Folk Metal]

It’s been a hot minute since I visited Poznań, but the city always seems to lurk around the palisades of my memory. From melodic blackened death and OSDM to CETI‘s no-frills heavy metal, a myriad of styles have emerged from this nation along the river Warta. Profeci piqued my ears while scouring Metal-Archives for a TTT article back in 2023; I’d never heard their previous records and was surprised to find they, too, originated in Poznań. Ubóstwo quickly found a place in my Top 10 list that year with its despondent black metal riffing and emotive clean vocal performances; Troska will likely do the same this year if the rest of the album maintains the quality of preview track “Kształt sugeruje człowieka” (“The shape suggests a human”). Beginning with classical guitar that evokes Poznań’s medieval origins, the song features an elastic performance from vocalist/guitarist Piotr Ramlau that ranges from folk balladry—reminiscent of Falconer‘s Mathias Blad—to a hollow roar similar to Behemoth‘s Adam Darski (minus many layers and many foreheads.) Whether delving into post-punk or knotted tremolo riffing, Profeci take great care in their songwriting, and I think we’re all in for a treat this Friday. Perhaps a St. Martin’s croissant? -Roldy
