Video Premiere: Drug Honkey – “Sickening Wasteoid”
I hope you’re sitting down because this video debut is about to give you a very bad trip.
On May 5th, Drug Honkey, preeminent pushers of bad vibes and even worse psychedelic experiences, will tear open the sky and unveil the ultimate in unpleasant trips with their acidic new record Cloak of Skies. The album, which features guest appearances by the godfather of groove Justin Broadrick and the saxlord supreme Bruce Lamont, is a deranged voyage into the most perverse corners of doom and sludge. Today I’m pleased as hell (and maybe just a little grossed out) to unveil the band’s new video for the trippy second track “Sickening Wasteoid.”
“Sickening Wasteoid” is a meta mind journey into a cancerous universe birthed by the twisted mind of Paolo Girardi. This new video breathes a putrid life into Girardi’s killer work, causing all of the cancerous masses and creeping protozoans on the album cover to bump and flitter and generally unnerve in a decidedly fungal way. It’s a low-key, understated video, one that captures the nostalgia of staring at Windows Media Player’s sonic visualization patterns and warps that through way, way too many hits of mescaline. It’s perfectly synced yet definitely off-kilter and evokes the classic visual imagery of Tool and Nine Inch Nails. If Isis’s cover of “Streetcleaner” ate way too many hashish balls and vomited metallic bacteria onto Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights, the resulting metal video might look and feel something like what Drug Honkey (man, I never get tired of saying that) have in store for you.
