Exclusive Track Premiere: Foetorem’s “Mors Viaturis – The Death Traveler”

Foetorem‘s latest single, “Mors Viaturis – The Death Traveler,” is the kind of track that makes me make that stank face—you know the one—as I bang my head in approval to the foulness entering my ear. I’ll admit, when this particular premiere was offered to the team over here in the big porcelain bowl, I hadn’t yet heard a single note. I do however put my trust in Everlasting Spew Records to bring the stankiest death metal, and they sure didn’t let me down here.
Foetorem are a quartet hailing from Denmark, with the usual suspects—drummer, bassist, and two guitarists who also both contribute to vocal duties. These 4 seem to have either found the key to the gates of hell or managed to tear a rift into the wall of said party destination, because every riff oozes putrid, sulphuric decay. They have also found the trick of being heavy enough to shatter concrete, but without being a one-trick pony. The track premiered here, and indeed the album as a whole has organically shifting pacing and atmosphere, like an apex predator on the hunt through the undergrowth.
“Mors Viaturis – The Death Traveler” lodges itself in the 4th spot on the album track list. Immediately before is “Oozing With Pustulent Fluids,” which charges forward with a sense of raw aggression, perhaps the chase before the predator makes its successful kill. “Mors Viaturis” slows things down for the final approach, while “Grotesque Decomposition” immediately following represents the aftermath. In this writer’s opinion, tracks three and four often make or break an album. Select the correct ones, and the listener is fully hooked in for the duration. If those tracks fail to do so, then I often don’t continue. Let me tell you friends, “Mors Viaturis – The Death Traveler” in the 4th spot sinks its hooks in deep!
