Flush It Friday: Gettin’ At It Like a Ditty Addict

Or an itty rabbit and a giddy mastiff.
Jean-Paul Dessy – Voices of the Animals
Cypres | May 16, 2025
In the conclusion to The War Against Animals, Dinesh Wadiwel suggests we might “begin a project of undoing the epistemic violence of the war against animals by tracking and narrating animal resistance against human sovereignty across all the intense hotspots” of that ongoing war we wage. Consider Voices of the Animals a form of self-narration, with the language of bats, whales, dolphins, wolves, bears, jackals, elephants, and lynx united as a choir with human strings and other orchestral instruments. Intimate and expansive, cloistered and free, this is a bestiary of ideas, thoughts, and emotions at which we can only guess.
Escalate – Consequences
New Age Records | January 17, 2024
Hailed as the “first and only” vegan straight edge band from Hungary, Escalate is heavy-as-hell mosh-forward metallic hardcore. A modernized Earth Crisis. Like nails pounded into a tree, there is a human-driven poison at the epicenter of our lives. To return to Wadiwel: “Sovereignty operates as a kind of right to stupidity—a right to act in spite of a ‘truth,’ which in turn constructs superiority as truth—and that this right is not won on the basis of any capacity to rule, but is only founded upon violence.” The war is waged. How will you resist? Desertion? Truce? Sabotage?
Perdy Slow – Bless Your Heart
Independent | June 12, 2025
The solo project of Brain Atoms from Arbor Labor Union, Perdy Slow is for folks who might just need to take a break from it all, grab a nice glass of lemonade, find a comfy chair, and have a chat with a loved one. “Time to call your close friends / And check on your relatives / Everyone that you love,” croons Atoms on standout “Fresh Bread.” The world’s a rotten place. The world’s a beautiful place. But of course. But of course. Unwind to this delightful collection of big-city americana that feels right at home in a small town.
Wind Tide – Blue Breaking Brown
Notice Recordings | December 8, 2023
While I’m no longer an avid collector of every tape released by Notice, I did recently come across this enchanting piece of lush guitar-based drone. Think Expo 70’s Journey through Astral Projection but a little more tethered. Think psychedelic tranquility and shushing waves. Think the voices of angels and the slow erosion of consciousness. Imagine yourself hiding among the dunes of a barrier island, Wilson’s plovers dancing around you, as the tide inches ever closer. Open and close your eyes in cosmic time and no time at all. There’s so much to do yet nothing much to do about it.
NEFAS – Oblation ov Obliteration
Independent | June 27, 2025
Featuring Gigan’s live bassist Rajan Davis (Wax People) and members of Cryptic Gallbladder Splatter, Bedlam of Cacophany, and Teeth, this new cross-country collaboration accomplishes quite a bit across just three tracks. There’s a kind of freaked-out spectral jazziness to tracks like “Spiral Degradation” that show the band’s willingness to muck around with what death metal and grindcore can do, yet there’s also an old school weirdness to “Mindstream Transference” that will might have folks thinking about !T.O.O.H.!. Or, hell, I don’t know, what if Luc Lemay started Cephalic Carnage. I’m in the cosmic weeds here, and I don’t need rescue.
Open up a pack of Flushers!

Thank Swarm Megachiles is back with a smorgasbord of synth-based traipses and jaunts.
Stevo spearheaded this glowing review of the epic doom of Fer de Lance.
