News Roundup: Lamb Of God’s Chris Adler in studio with Megadeth, Slayer album updates, Behemoth’s Nergal, System Of A Down, Sevendust, Aborted & more!
The weekend came and left in a jiff. Beyond many a hangover and betrayed diet in its forsaken path, there also shined a shiny demon bottle containing several enticing pieces of new information inside. More so if you like thrash metal. Or making fun of Dave Mustaine.
Legendary band Megadeth is in the studio right now working on their 15th studio album. They shared a brief video on 3/26 hinting at their new drummer, and now, the rumors have been confirmed. Lamb of God‘s drummer Chris Adler will be handling the kits for Super Collider‘s sucessor, to be recorded as a trio with Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson. Honestly, I have not jammed a Megadeth album or song in a good while, but this collaboration is something I can get behind. Considering how much Adler – and LoG in general – has professed his love for the thrash ensemble, I assume he will put his heart and soul in this project. Here’s what the man had to say:
MEGADETH was the game changer for me. Growing up, there was no other band that meant as much to my musical interest and direction. There is no doubt I would not be doing what I have been doing for the past three decades had I not stumbled across ‘Killing Is My Business’ and the bible of all metal, ‘Peace Sells’ in my formative years.
And Mustaine:
Chris is a tremendous talent, and an amazing person. He is going to bring a new level of excitement and energy to MEGADETH that the fans are going to lose their minds over. I have nothing but respect for my previous drummers, but this is going to absolutely KILL! Back in 1989, MEGADETH originally worked as a three piece – guitar, bass and drums – when we laid down the framework to our GRAMMY® nominated platinum album ‘Rust In Peace’. I want to thank the other members of LAMB OF GOD for allowing this opportunity to take place for all of us in the metal community.

Another Big Four band bringeth thy new new, Slayer. Bassist and vocalist Tom Araya sat down with Revolver and discussed details of their upcoming LP. He stated that the band was entering the final stages of mixing the record, a project which still lacks a name, a cover and song titles. What they do have is 13 recorded songs, featuring primarily Araya, Kerry King and drummer Paul Bostaph. Gary Holt (Exodus) will be lending his chops to a couple of the songs. Here’s Tom on the record’s subject:
(…) the usual topics—conflict, confrontation, religion. It’s all about the social ills that dominate humankind. It’s a Slayer record, you know what I mean? It’s gonna be a really, really powerful record, so let everybody know!
To this humble fish (God), the most exciting news is that one of the tracks was recorded while Jeff Hanneman was still among us. It will probably mark the last work of his illustrious career. If not for anything else, Slayer’s upcoming album is one to look forward to. Stab here and read the whole piece.
I follow Behemoth‘s frontman Nergal on Instagram. His account is probably one of the best among metal peers – it’s just great to see the guy having a blast after overcoming Leukemia. Among backstage shots, fan tattoos and playing stare with Cannibal Corpse‘s George Fisher, he has shared two video clips of him in the studio recording what could be part of an upcoming solo album. It sounds nothing like the blackened death metal ov Behemoth and everything like the songs Gregory House would play at the end of an episode. Which is not bad at all in my book.
Mortal Kombat X is going to reign glutes. Ramping up the excitement for the game release (April 14th) is an ad directed by System Of A Down‘s Shavo Odadjian. You might love SOAD, you might hate SOAD, but it is hard to argue that this is a pretty dank ad. Check it out by stabbing the YouTube video below:
Apparently the guys in Sevendust need no rest. Even though they released an acoustic album – Time Travelers & Bonfires – in 2014, word is out that they already completed recording a new album, this time without grandpa’s guitars. Maybe not completely without them. Just not focusing on them. You catch my drift. Stay tuned for more updates by liking the band’s Facebook page.
Sevendust will be playing at the Fiesta Oyster Bake in San Antonio (4/18) alongside Pop Evil, Nonpoint and P.O.D. Yes, that P.O.D. No other dates were mentioned.

Unfortunately, not all is peachy with that camp, because someone robbed Dark Sermon’s van. Luckily, their equipment was not in it, so it won’t be impeditive to complete upcoming tour’s obligations.
The missing vehicle is a white 2000 Dodge Ram 3500. The license tag is 839 TEF. It was last seen at US19 and Sunset in Clearwater, FL.
We leave for a 2.5 month tour a week from today, as some of you know, so this is a very dire situation. We have filed a police report, and we believe we have security camera footage of the man who took it. If you could please SHARE this post on your Facebook and spread awareness about this incident, we might be able to catch the thief and maybe even get our van back.

I was alerted by fellow deity Bear God that one of the coolest Finn bands out there, Beastmilk, was no more. The reason behind this is the departure of guitarist Johan Nell. Consoling my poor immortal heart is news that instead of ending all activities, the remainder of the band will keep working under the name Grave Pleasures. New guitarman will be Juno Vanhanen from psychedelic black metal act Oranssi Pazuzu. Being an OP fanboy, I am very excited to hear what this addition will mean to Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures sonically. Work is currently under way for the new album, which will be produced by Tom Dalgety (whose production/mixing chops were employed by Killing Joke, Opeth, Royal Blood and others)
