Premiere: Disembodiment – “Spiral Crypts”

Before you ask: yes, the crypts in question are as wet as they are twisting.
These labyrinthine passages stretched on far longer than anyone was prepared for. Electronics failed, waymarks shifted and disappeared, and even compasses failed; this expedition was doomed from the start, and you have been lost in the tunnels for weeks. Food ran out days ago, and nothing grows from between the ancient brickwork of this tomb- a tomb built for a civilization long past, and now, a tomb for you and your fellows. One unlucky soul scraped a small patch of slime from a wall and slurped it down in a desperate attempt to soothe his aching belly. You can still see his grotesque transformation in your mind’s eye, the skin sloughing from his body, virulent pustules boiling forth from the flesh beneath and bursting, spreading this hideous contagion to anyone too close. You fled as their bodies morphed and melted together, and the anguished cries of this unholy amalgam haunt the passages behind you as it searches for anyone or anything that could possibly provide succor. But perhaps it is better to join them; being overtaken by the madness seems preferable to letting starvation take its course.
Such is what I hear in “Spiral Crypts,” the title track from Disembodiment‘s forthcoming album. The shifts between frantic madness and the despair of impending doom are carried by an abrasive, caustic sound that permeates the vocals and instruments. This is death metal for grime enthusiasts, fungal fanatics, and anyone looking for something down and dirty. Get you some, you filthy freak.
