Premiere: Graveripper – “…And Now It’s Dark”

Ripped most grievously
Graveripper is back in black, heralding the onset of prime horror season. We’ve been seeing the band hone their craft over the years, sharpening the edges of their blackened thrash and infusing it with odious grit. For this latest release, they’re leaning more heavily into their black metal side, but that doesn’t mean this is all serious business now; it has simply served to make them more Skeletonwitch-y than ever before.
While the lyrics to “…And Now It’s Dark” aren’t expressly spooky- they’re paying homage to a certain late, great artist- the vibe most certainly is, but it’s playful as well. Its bouncy primary riff feels horror punk as much as anything else, cavorting impishly through the cemetery with wicked delight. It’s a rippin’ good time, perfect for your next graveyard soiree; once this tune hits your ears, you’ll be skanking among the headstones in no time. Says the band of the song:
“…And Now it’s Dark” is a mean Black N’ Roller. I think this is one of the more unique, distinct songs on the record. Lyrically, it is a tribute to one of my favorite artists of all time. It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out who that is. The ending section is my take on “The Pink Room.” As weird as that may be, I have always loved that song and thought it would be fun to try to do a GRAVERIPPER take on it sometime, and here it is.”
