TRACK PREMIERE: Sounding – “Holy Spunk”
Relieve the pressure inside your skull by drilling a hole in it with this premiere from Trepanation, the debut record from New Orleans grind kids Sounding.
Long ago, the the Internet was a wild wasteland of anything goes brutality. The world revolved around a lost Atlantis called “MySpace”. Young folks with flat ironed haircuts were free to experiment with the most aggressive sounds their thin frames could muster. From Top 8 to Top 8, you’d find wooly and weird one-man projects that pushed the limits of extremity. Sadly, few acts from these days survive. Sure, you’ve got Cephalic Carnage and Insect Warfare, but many of the best projects of those days have been lost to relative obscurity (lookin’ at you, Sawtooth Grin). Thankfully, a new generation is stepping up to reclaim the lost glory of MySpace grind. Thankfully, we have Sounding.
With Trepanation, Sounding is here to bring back the unfairly maligned white belt grindcore of days past. “Holy Spunk”, a track I’m proud to premiere today, does everything an early-2000s grind fan would hope to hear. There are math riffs aplenty, bleeding throat screams, lock-step grooves, and a twisted meltdown to close it off. Much like the drill to your skull of a trepanation or the smooth metal object to penetrate your dick hole in sounding, Sounding’s Trepanation will get in you and be a real challenge to get out.
Trepanation drops October 1st. Pick it up here and listen to four additional tracks, then go follow Sounding on Facebook. For more info on trepanation, you could check out this interview Amanda Feilding did with Vice about drilling a hole into her own fucking skull.
