This Toilet Tuesday (11/17/20)
Toilet Tuesday trundles its way into our precious bowl once more, a massive load of new releases in tow this time. Karhu and I have selected a couple jams to get your morning started, so give those a listen and hit that list for some more good shit. It’s a solid week, and I want to know what you’re all listening to as well.
Without Mercy – Seismic (Independent) [Tech Death/Core/Groove]

If that genre tag has you scratching your head and/or running for the hills, fear not: I couldn’t think of what else to call an album that’s ostensibly death metal Nevermore, complete with Chris Broderick guest spot. Between the syncopated ERG riffing and flashy shredding, parts of this better emulate the prog giant’s sound than bands that set out specifically to do that; even some of the solo phrasing sounds straight out of Loomis’s playbook. It’s not total Nevermore worship- there are some chunky breakdowns, and “The Disaster” is pure tech death- but it’s tickling that same part of my brain that craves that music and doing some pretty rad shit besides. 11/20/20 (Spear)
