This Toilet Tuesday (1/2/18)
Welcome to the first Toilet Tuesday of 2018! There’s a fair amount of stuff out this week, and, well, I hope you like black metal, because that’s basically all it is. Due to family gatherings for the holidays and whatnot, I haven’t had the time I usually do to peruse this and ended up mostly listening to one thing. Pick out a release or two that catches your ear and give it a shout out in the comments.
Moongates Guardian – Leave the Northern Mountains (Independent) [Nerd Black Metal]

Summoning is the obvious choice for Lord of the Rings-themed epic doomy black metal this week, but if that’s your thing, you should give Moongates Guardian a listen as well. It’s more or less the same kind of music, but with a couple key differences. Moongates Guardian is a little more riff-driven than Summoning and a fair bit faster at times as well; it’s a different atmosphere, but one I imagine most fans of the genre could get behind. And look at that, there’s even a Summoning cover near the end of the album. Get on this one. 1/1/18 (Spear)
