This Toilet Tuesday (3/12/19)
It’s Toilet Tuesday once again, and holy shit you guys, I had to sift through so much NSBM this week to get this list finished. I guess all that shrieking about returning to the “old ways” is all for show after all, because they’ve clearly spent all winter hibernating in their parents’ basements and are emerging at the first sign of spring. The good news here is that this week has a pretty solid showing in spite of that, and we’ve picked out a couple good ones for you to check out.
Asthma Castle – Mount Crushmore (Hellmistress Records) [Sludge/Stoner Metal]

The fact that Adam Jarvis is involved will probably yield this enough attention as it is, but nonetheless, I’ll take a moment to point out that this is some really enjoyable, really heavy stuff. There’s a reason the tag says “Metal” instead of “Rock”. Just look past the silly song titles – they’re pretty much the only thing that’s cliché about this. 3/15/19 (Hans)
Hannes Grossmann – Apophenia (Independent) [Prog/Tech Death]

It’s basically another Alkaloid album largely focused on the tech death side of their sound; seriously, all five members of the band are present in some form or another, the guitar tone is the same, and the riffs are exactly as chunky and weird as you’d expect. The lyrics are comically on the nose in a couple spots, but that’s pretty easy to forgive here. Apophenia absolutely jams, and it needs to be on your radar if you’re a fan of prog or tech death. 3/11/19 (Spear)
