Oh god oh fuck
It’s never a good time when your PC crashes, but having it shit the bed in the midst of pandemic isolation while trying to put together an article is something else. As such, this article is brought to you by my janky work laptop as I impatiently wait for new parts to come in. On top of that, this week’s list is huge and equally janky; I had no less than five bands vying for the lolbuttz title. At least we’ve got some solid releases from Unspeakable Axe and TSO. Otherwise, I know there’s a bunch of stuff I missed, so feel free to share in the comments if there’s anything worth checking out that’s not on this list.
Serpent Column – Endless Detainment (Mystiskaos) [Chaotic Black Metal]

I remarked recently that Serpent Column sounds like a black metal band getting thrown down a flight of stairs, and our resident pirate metal connoisseur BMP observed that they’re less falling-down-stairs than Pyrrhon or Imperial Triumphant, making them much more accessible. And he’s absolutely right; while SC is chaotic and hazy, there’s a distinct structure to their music that makes it feel less impenetrable than some of their peers. Mirror in Darkness was one of my favorite albums of last year, and Endless Detainment feels like a fitting followup with its short-format songs and more straightforward songwriting. It’s no less impressive (or violent) than its predecessor, and it’s perfect if you’re looking for a short burst of harsh music. 3/18/20 (Spear)
