This Toilet Tuesday (3/8/16)
Greetings, Toileters, and welcome to another This Toilet Tuesday! It’s getting difficult to stay both grim and frostbitten with the increasingly pleasant weather, which probably accounts for the comparatively light week we’ve got on our hands. Guess I’ll have to settle for grim and sunburned. Regardless, W, Jom Pooterson, and I have snagged a couple of the standouts for your listening pleasure. It’s gonna get heavy.
Primitive Man/Sea Bastard – Primitive Man/Sea Bastard (split- Dry Cough Records) [Hate]
Stream
Slow. Hateful. Angry azz fUk. What else did you expect from a Primitive Man split? Sunshine? Rainbows? Dragon fornication? NO. The Colorado based doom/sludge/noise trio is back with a duo of plodding dirges guaranteed to make you second guess all of your life’s happiest moments. Pure hatred, my friends. But let’s not forget Sea Bastard’s contribution to this release. “The Hermit” is twenty more minutes of down-tempo scorn, this time with a slowly developing crescendo peaking mid-track, contrasting nicely to Primitive Man’s consistent, sluggish pace. 3/7/16 (Jom Pootersan)
Sarke – Bogefod (Indie Recordings) [Black/Thrash]
Listen to “Alternation”
Are you craving mid-paced black metal with rock solid riffs and Nocturno Culto on throat-splitting vocals? Look no further than Sarke. “Alternation” is the band’s second single for their fourth full-length, and it bodes well for Bogefod. Throughout the course of this short track, the primary riff mutates and sputters, changing pace and angle periodically, but it always keeps your head bobbing in a constant nod. I’m rockin’. FFO: Keep of Kalessin, Aura Noir, Darkthrone 3/11/16 (W.)
Waldgeflüster/Panopticon – Waldgeflüster/Panopticon (split- Nordvis Produktion) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Der Traumschänder” (Waldgeflüster)
Fans of sylvan ‘n’ stuff black metal take note! This new split between Waldgeflüster and Panopticon is just what your bark-embossed heart is craving. I can only account for the first Waldgeflüster track, but its dream-like riffs, arboreal screams, and owl-like patience bode well for the remainder of this split. Plus, just look at that album art. If it doesn’t scream “moment of quiet contemplation in the woods while the spiritual black metal riffs, folksy melodies, and ruinous drums create the perfect soundtrack to mankind’s capitulation to Mother Nature,” I don’t know what does. FFO: Downfall of Nur, Selvans, Antlers 3/11/16 (W.)
Northless – Cold Migration (Triple Eye Industries) [Sludge]
Listen to “The Curse of Being”
GUH. Let me reiterate: GUUHHHHH. Northless want to remind you that humanity is complete garbage, and they do it with music as heavy as the message. Each torturous scream on “The Curse of Being,” accented by a burst of sound from the band, feels like an admonishment hammered into your soul. The guitar and bass are as filthy as the shit you surround your worthless being with. Spin Cold Migration and remember that you are nothing. 3/11/16 (Spear)
