Dagdrøm – Schauder (Independent) [Post-Black]
Dagdrøm’s debut LP flits gracefully between genres, never resting long on a particular style; despondent post-black melodies give way to thrashing triplets in “Ascheregen,” and jabs of dissonance add a layer of tension throughout. While the overall tone is melancholic, the preview tracks contain bursts of energy like the ecstatic melodeath that concludes “Ascheregen” and “Tagtraum”‘s unexpected metalcore breakdown. Schauder is the sound of a young band in bloom, bolstered by the confident cross-pollination of its influences; we will have to wait for Friday to see what surprises remain buried in its soil. -Roldy
