Welcome once more to This Toilet Tuesday! We’ve got a solid week of new releases ahead of us, with lots of variety and lots of weird, and I’m all for both. DumpsterLung and I have picked out a couple sweet jams we think you’ll dig, and there’s a lot more to sift through below. Grab something that sounds interesting and share it!

Logic of Denial – Aftermath (Comatose Music) [Brutal/Tech Death]
Listen to “Devouring Seeds of the Apocalypse,” “Gorging on Innocence,” “Euphoric Abhorrent Synthesis”

There’s an inordinate amount of BDM albums coming out this week, and if you’ve only got time for one, then Aftermath should be your pick. It’s a rare breed of brutal death that nails both the songwriting and the production; I’d put it above the others on this list for that alone, but this is far beyond simply adequate. Logic of Denial hit you with riff after riff, never slowing for a minute, but never bringing about the fatigue that can result from this sort of audio pummeling. This is partially due to the variance in each individual song- no two sound overly similar- but if I’m going to be blunt, LoD are just write way more interesting music than the majority of their peers. Aftermath got its hooks in me early on, and they never once loosened their grip through the entirety of its run time. 6/9/17 (Spear)

Triumvir Foul – Spiritual Bloodshed (Invictus Productions) [Death Metal]
Stream

Just over 1 year since the release of their eponymous debut, Portland’s filthiest have resurfaced from the murk to deliver unto us Spiritual Bloodshed. While the band’s debut was a malevolent offering of unhinged death metal, it had an underlying element of groove to balance out its chaotic flailing. On their sophomore however, Triumvir Foul dispense with such modulation, opting to focus purely on concentrating the turmoil, creating the utmost carnage. Vile riffing, disgusted growls, bestially thumped drums, and atonal leads attempt to throttle you at every turn, giving you the death you almost certainly deserve. FFO: Teitanblood, Heresiarch, Grave Miasma. (Lacertilian)

Klabautamann – Smaragd (Zeitgeister Music) [Progressive Black Metal]
Listen

The album artwork, with its pretty colors and marine life- even a couple mermaid-esque beings- doesn’t look like it’d have much to do with black metal, but maybe that’s for the best. There is just as much progressive/avant-garde music here as there is black metal, with tons of softer, colorful melodies and vocal styles, as varied as the colorful creatures depicted on the album. But like the massive angler fish prominently pictured, Smaragd does have teeth. Rather than mixing all the elements of their sound together constantly, Klabautamann prefer to draw you in in with the more peaceful, delicate melodies first, not unlike the glowing lure of the angler fish, until a black metal attack lunges from out of the surrounding darkness. The entire album has kind of an ebb and flow though, never staying in one level of intensity or mood too long before switching things up. Even after a blasting section of pure black metal, things quickly calm down again. There’s a lot of variety to the sound of this album, so just check out the list of guest musicians if you’re wanting a better sense of all the various instruments that come into play throughout its course. In short, like the ocean, there’s equal parts beauty and peril. Check it out! 6/6/17 (DumpsterLung)
