This Toilet Tuesday (7/1/25)
O August Bowl ov the Abyss, O Greatest ov Crap Crimes (the second being Reliquary Tower with an upset tummy), disappear all trace ov our offal. This week, we’ve got a poop baby, exudate grind, and apologetic black metal (could do with a lot more of this tbh). We’ve plainly reached the summer nadir of releases, but sift through the detritus and I bet something will turn up. Let us know what we missed in the comments!
Akouphenom – Connections to the Erebus (Unorthodox Emanations) [Blackened Death]
“Extrema Unción” is an apt title for the first single off Akouphenom’s new EP; the track leads listeners through a fever dream of disso-tinged blackened death before administering a soothing layer of post-metal (and a hint of ’90s pop-punk, oddly enough) to ease us through its final moments. (If what transpires at the moment of death is anything like what vocalist DraGon suffers at track’s end, I’m really not looking forward to it.) This sort of dense, frantic songwriting echoes the band’s debut LP, Death·Chaos·Void (2023); I’m looking forward to mapping out the dark corners of another claustrophobic release. There are bound to be surprises—though I doubt many of them will be pleasant in the traditional sense. -Roldy
