This Toilet Tuesday (7/2/19)
It’s Toilet Tuesday, my dudes; let’s check out some new music. The list this week is pretty short, but Hans and I were able to pick out a couple solid jams for your enjoyment. As always, let us know if there’s anything important we missed.
Sanguine Eagle – Storm Mysticism (Profound Lore) [Black Metal]

Wonderfully monotonous atmospheric black metal in the vein of Sun Worship, Ash Borer, Fell Voices, et al. The kind of band that can comfortably pull off a song approaching the 15-minute mark. This will be released with a companion album called Shores of Avarice, from which there’s also a song available. It doesn’t seem to sound different at all, so I’m gonna call gimmick for now, but perhaps I’ll be proven wrong come Friday. 7/5/19 (Hans)
Fields of Elysium – In Ancient Contemplation (Independent) [Prog/Tech Death]

I’ve heard a lot of “album of the year” talk regarding Fields of Elysium in tech death circles lately; while I don’t think that’s going to be the case for me, I can certainly see why people are so enthralled by it. In Ancient Contemplation is some big brain prog death in the same vein as Contrarian. It’s technical, but even-tempered and deliberate, and it’s got a lot more heart than many of their contemporaries. It’s a damn fine piece of prog death, and it’s one I think will appeal to even non-prog people. 7/1/19 (Spear)
