Kings Rot – At the Gates of Adversarial Darkness (Hypnotic Dirge Records) [Blackened Death]
Fans of Thulcandra (get REKT, Jon) will devour Kings Rot‘s sophomore release like Denethors d’oeuvres. At the Gates of Adversarial Darkness takes shape as a molten counterpart to meloblack’s blue castle-core—the shrill, distant production of that style is replaced here by a visceral, bass-heavy tone that’s less sadboi corridor wandering, more charging across ashen fields into glorious death. These long-form tracks venture into deathly territory (as well as some rock ‘n roll), but it’s largely a blackened affair, replete with blasts and mid-range rasping vocals.
