This Toilet Tuesday (9/24/19)
Toilet Tuesday beckons, and I have answered its call. We’ve gathered up all the new music coming out this week that we could find, and good lord, is there a lot of it. I’ve picked out a couple things that made compiling this list less miserable, but if you want something else, there’s almost assuredly something coming out for you this week. Check out that huge list and let us know if there’s anything else we need to hear.
Vintersea – Illuminated (M-Theory Audio) [Prog Metal]

Nothing takes the edge off quite like some chill prog; while that’s not the only tool in Vintersea’s box, it’s what they deliver on “Illuminated,” and it’s exactly what I’m looking for right now. The title track is steeped in ethereal post-metal chording and archetypal modern prog melodies. It’s a very serene sound even once the screams come in, and I love the pure, clear tone and mix. The full release is sure to have more diverse songs, but for now, I’m good with this. 9/27/19 (Spear)
Netherbird – Into the Vast Uncharted (Eisenwald) [Melodic Black Metal]

It must be comfort food music week, because Netherbird is simple musical pleasure at its finest. This is pretty straightforward melodic black metal—think something along the lines of Hoth or Uada—but it’s done well enough that it doesn’t need to break the mold to be enjoyable. The melodies are catchy and galvanic, and the two songs available for streaming are quick and palatable. Nothing groundbreaking, but very good nonetheless. 9/27/19 (Spear)
