The Titanomachy—The Battle of the Gods—raged for 10 years as Zeus led his siblings to wrest power from their Titan forebears. Installing themselves on Mount Olympus, they became the new Greek pantheon and doled out punishment to the conquered: imprisonment in Tartarus for most; an eternity of supporting the sky for Atlas. Much of what we know about the Titanomachy stems from Hesiod‘s Theogony, the last remaining poem describing this mythological war. However, the archaeologists at Everlasting Spew Records have today unearthed an ancient stele, replete with musical notation carved by an entity known only as Feral Forms. Transcribed in full, the music of “Titanomachia” can be heard below:

With a crash of cymbals, those once loyal to the Titans begin their decade of conflict: death metal tremolos befitting the original bolt thrower himself strike amidst the rumbling thunder of floor toms. A guitar lead, sharp as Hoplite steel, shrieks a cacophony as weapons collide with incredible force. The song’s mixture of OSDM simplicity and the acerbic production of modern bands like Full of Hell and Concrete Winds is itself a microcosm of the Titanomachy—ancient and nascent forces clashing for control of future worship. As the Olympians close in on victory, casting the Titans into their Chthonic prison, vocalist Federico’s delivery (reminiscent of Lord Worm’s malformed bark) reaches new heights of ecstatic violence. The message is clear: though the heavens are under new management, mere mortals will maintain their position underfoot. So a new tyranny begins.

Through Demonic Spell releases November 29 through Everlasting Spew Records.
